Here's an even better one from the 29 April 1932 issue of the Murray Pioneer and Australian River Record, which very much appears to be a New Guard recruitment ad at first glance. These companies were making hay with the Guard's stunts it seems.
It's quite interesting to read newspaper advertisements from the 1930s, some of them had quite abit of wit. Like this one in the 20 April 1932 edition of The Advertiser (SA). #history 🗃️
Had a great time at my first AHA Conference, really enjoyed meeting historians from so many different fields. Also got some excellent feedback and comments regarding my paper (first time I've ever presented at the AHA). Overall an excellent experience, I cannot wait for next year's. #history 🗃
Chantelle Thomas is speaking again to close the debate (that was way quicker than I expected). Here's the list I've got below, the Noes very likely have it. I'll try and update the final vote tally once it occurs. #saparli
Blair Boyer (ALP) confirms is he opposing the bill. I have also been alerted to the fact that Catherine Hutchesson (ALP) has confirmed she will be opposing the bill via her Instagram. Boyer takes the time to criticise Tung Ngo's (ALP) amendment in the Upper House. Everyone should attack Ngo.
Jack Batty (LNP) shockingly says he opposes the bill. He has previously stated his support for restricting late-term abortion, so it's really interesting to see him change his mind. He says the current legislation is robust and doesn't need change. Major blow to the anti-abortion side. #saparli
Robert Roylance (ON) confirms his support for the bill. Lou Nicholson (IND) decides to treat her speech like a clickbait video and lean between both supporting and opposing (she genuinely seems to be on both sides at different points) before stating she will Oppose the bill. Enjoy this photo
Also, I have added Erin Thompson to the No vote and swapped Olivia Savvas over based on their Instagram stories saying they will be voting against the bill. Meanwhile Kouts says the bill will be overwhelmingly defeated but that it was good it won in the Upper House.
The list is obviously missing a bunch of MPs (hard to get a full picture when so many are new), but these are the likely ones. The Yes side is filled with One Nation MPs, previous abortion restriction supporters, some clear Labor Right MPs, and Jack Batty, who has previously called for restrictions.
Leader of the Nationals, David Littleproud, has announced that he is quitting politics altogether. The dude held on to his position against Colin Boyce out of spite it seems, he said he's been meaning to resign since the coalition was reformed. #auspol
Ex-Leader of the SA Liberal Party, David Speirs, has confirmed that he's running for the seat of Black at the upcoming election. Speirs is a convicted drug supplier and had claimed video evidence of him using cocaine was AI. Also, the Advertiser may have hit a banger of a title... #saparli
The Liberal party's strategy apparently rests upon... (checks notes)... the general public pitying them. That's the best the SA Libs have got. And mind you their wounds are self-inflicted, they've shot themselves in the foot and are going "oh won't anyone think of poor little old us". #saparli
It actually gets worse, turns out you can see a sample of the book, and this is part of that sample...
The part that stands out to me is her book. Its blurb on Amazon includes the following paragraph, which does seem to stand out as very right-wing (and anti-trans) compared to all of their other candidates.
Just as a note, this is what they plan for their new logo to be... #auspol
Welp, the Chaser's article on the Adelaide Writer's Week, calling it the Adelaide Writer's Afternoon, has infiltrated the Edge AI summary. 'Hilariously', the AI summary combines the parody article with real news, so it could very easily trick people not in the know. #saparli
If anyone's looking at FlightRadar and wondering about this Bombardier Global 6000 flying off the coast of Venezuela like I was, with the callsign T7102X, its actually Maduro's personal jet. Presumably family or some governmental figure is on it. politicaheroica.co/el-regimen-d... #venezuela
Even weirder now, is that the same Hercules is flying out off the coast, being followed by a Sikorsky HH-60W Jolly Green II helicopter. Based on this and the other aircraft nearby, it's likely that a US naval force is currently setting up (for Venezuela?) in that area off the coast of Florida.
Now, this is not the only movement of US air assets nearby, as above Florida right now, the US Airforce is obviously on standby. Below, you'll see two P-8 Poseidons finishing up surveillance missions over/near Florida, likely as precautionary measures. Most interesting though is Hercules flying...
Been watching Flightradar due to the current provocations against Venezuela, and I've noticed some interesting things. Firstly, as you see below, there's an E-3C Sentry. Since last night, I've also seen a high altitude balloon, an MQ-4C Triton UAV, and a Poseidon P-8 plane all around Venezuela.
I've also added the Labor candidate for Mount Gambier, Matthew Key, to the candidate tracker.
I've also updated the candidate tracker below; - Added Steffi Medrow (Cheltenham), Jenn Tranter (Morialta), Declan Brumfield (Waite) to the Greens - Removed Leon Bignell (Mawson) from Labor - Changed Mark Aldridge (United Voice) back to the LegCo since he's changed his mind...
Stopped by a second-hand bookstore today in Melbourne, found this 'gem' (and by that I mean absolute trash). #auspol
