LouLou, a 12-year-old medium-sized mutt in black and white cozied up to me on the couch for belly rubs. Got my great-grandmother's crocheted zigzag blanket in all its crazy colors on the couch for couch protection because this old girl needs a bath.

HI HELLO BABY TARANTULA ALERT

A baby green bottleblue tarantula, about the size of a quarter toe-to-toe, checking out the new digs with the moss it shipped in, some brown substrate, with some green silk leaves for hidey spots and color. Baby's legs have dark toes, pink in the middle, dark blue near the body with a body that is dark blue with orange markings. Little spiderling is very fuzzy, not just because of poor camera focus.

I may have gone overboard at the Book Barn today but I found so many treasures! I can't resist a $1 vintage paperback.

Just hanging out at our hotel going through my used book haul after a perfect afternoon spent hopping around Book Barn locations in Niantic, CT. Treasures procured include (generally from left to right) a hardcover copy of Kraken by China Mieville, a paperback of Zeroes by Chuck Wendig, a hardcover copy of Killashandra by Anne McCaffrey, paperback copy of The Ship Who Sang by Anne McCaffrey, Vulcan! by Kathleen Sky, Vulcan's Glory by D.C. Fontana, and Ruby by V.C. Andrews because it was the first in a series revolving around a Cajun family so I was legally obligated.

Day 1 with the plants all in place. Fingers crossed everything settles in over the next few weeks so I can start figuring out which critters to add.

Freshly planted freshwater aquarium, 10 gallon rectangular tank with a driftwood from my previous tank and a variety of plants including dwarf hairgrass, pearl weed, cryptocorybe ubdulata hiding in the back, scarlet temple for some color, moneywort, water sprite, and some vallisneria to obscure the tank heater. Day 1.

Finally starting a project I meant to start a year ago with a completely new freshwater tank that will be (hopefully) it's own self-sustaining ecosystem with the struggle with filter changes, etc. I think we'll start with some shrimp once the plants arrive and have a few weeks to develop.

The freshwater fish tank that lives on top of an old dresser by my kitchen, empty except for the gravel substrate on the bottom and the tank heater in the lefthand corner, waiting for new plants to arrive and then new critters. Don't mind the miscellaneous mess of aquarium tools in the foreground.

The sloshed remains of a chocolate chip cookie cake in a clear glass pie pan fresh out of the oven that had been dropped on the floor on its way to the cooling rack. I'll spare you the carnage of melted chocolate and gooey cookie dough splattered all over my cabinets and floor.

Kiddo was cooked by 2:30 so we're home already but made it to the Fest for the ritual Rosemint tea, crawfish bread, and mango freeze and caught the end of Ricky Lee Jones' set before I spent a lot of money on some art for my bday/mom day present. Out before the crowd got too crowded.

I am quiet on the internet because my hands are busy finishing work for two art shows I am participating in during May. My fingers hurt & my eyes are crossing but I'm pretty stoked about this one. This piece is my in-progress submission for Peepshow at Chemical 14 in the Bywater, opening May 10th.

A handmade fabric and crepe paper garden inside a playwood box, with tendrils of vines covered in irridescent white penta flowers falling from the "ceiling" and a garden of grasses and blue satin flowers growing from below. The background of three sides are vintage handkerchiefs embroidered with doilies and a butterfly patch, and vintage ribbon trim. Beads and buttons dotting ever surface, centering every flower. A work in progress for Peepshow opening at Chemical 14 Gallery in the Bywater on May 10th, 6 to 10 pm.

The mourning doves that nested above our center porch column in the fall returned and have a new baby. 🥰 I thought there were two but might only be one this time. Now we are on fledgling watch so we can make sure the outside cats leave them alone when it's time to fly away. 🙏

Participating in a Star Wars-inspired show in May (the open is exactly the day you think it should be) so I have been stitching like mad today because I have 2 collections to finish for Mary's Rack this month & I'm submitting for another show at Chemical 14 (also in May) so crunch time is now.
