Since I find myself enjoying a fair bit of "making of" craft content these days, I thought I'd give y'all a little sneak behind the curtain and film the resin part of making light up earrings.
Phew, I lost almost a whole day in an art frenzy! Feels fucking GREAT, and now I've got one half of a sick pair of earrings.
Impatiently waiting for the oven to heat up so I can continue with version 2 of the earrings I was prototyping last night. Because I'm using polymer clay and UV resin thankfully there's not a lot of waiting involved in this particular process.
Tonight was my first time messing with a set of miniature sculpting tools I got a while back (shout out to the "dental supplies" section of Aliexpress) While I'm usually a "make do" kinda artist, I have to admit, it does make a real difference having the right tools to sculpt, even if they're cheap.
Someone sent me a reel of a very talented artist making light up lampshade earrings, and my brain being the way it is immediately thought, "What if a version that looks alive tho?" First prototype complete!
I almost forgot the one photo I got of my look tonight, because I had a bit of a last minute outfit crisis and didn't have time to take any before I left. On my way home some guy shouted "Hey, purple lady!" to get my attention and I guess he's not wrong. (I redyed my hair today)
I gave a dear friend a gift I'm very proud of tonight even though I just assembled it - she's an old school Sailor Moon fan, and also one of the baddest bitches I know, so I got my paws on a complete set of @yoshiyoshitani.bsky.social Sailor Scouts badass "business cards" and framed them for her!
I was very happy with my make-up tonight - I stepped out of my comfort zone a bit and got a tiny bit more colourful than usual and it was a hit! I only got this one slightly blurry shot while I was waiting for people, but I'm sure you get the idea.
After a truly hideous week of illness and then trying to catch up on everything from when I was sick, it was so good to get out and have a good dance with lovely people tonight. My outfit got so many wonderful compliments, I think all the hot glue and sweat was worth it!
This is the face of a girl had a delightful day second hand shopping with friends, and is now settling in for a fondly remembered movie in a Care Bears dressing gown that is as beautifully soft as it is disgustingly coloured. An absolute bargain at a mere nine dollars!
Here's the tiara with the first coat of paint, with a closer look at the cuffs. I'm so pleased at how Venom it all looks! The Tamiya enamel miniature paint I've been using is working out so well on the hot glue!
Ahhh I'm so excited by my outfit project progress I made a lil video so you can see how well it's coming together! This shows the wings and cuffs, but there is also a matching tiara and ring nearly ready to show.
Okay, first progress shot of the wings and crown! The wings I've just reinforced and reshaped a bit, and the crown is a mish mash of wire, hot glue, and the horns from an old Halloween costume. Obviously still a lot of painting to do, but I'm using enamel paint so I can only do a little at a time.
Got all dolled up to go out for a dance tonight - I didn't end up having the energy to stay as long as I would have liked but I'm still glad I made the effort to get out.
Tonight's silly mind soothing movie is Stick It (2006), a movie that appealed to both the teen gymnast and blossoming futch appreciator in me. It's still far more charming than it has any right to be, but I think i understand more about WHY I love it these days...👭
Very excited to make myself some pan fried pork and settle in tonight to enjoy this very late 90s delight.
Loot post from the Witches Market I went to! The lipstick and eyeliner are alarmingly stay put, the socks are adorable, and I'm obsessed with both the rings I got. The plain band will be for every day, and the dagger one for when I need to sharpen my outfit up a bit.
Photos of this beautiful piece really don't do it justice so here's a rough lil video so you can see the lovely texturing left from the sand casting process.
Practising with my video editing app in the hopes of encouraging myself to make more "content" for my jewellery enterprise, and I made a bunch of photos into an incredibly cheesy friendship slideshow complete with effects!
This is my only tattoo at the moment, and I don't show it off a lot because a) it's not terribly impressive and b) I got it for deeply personal reasons that I don't enjoy explaining. But I've been thinking about it a lot this last week or so.
The groove of knitting feels so good to me. I had to put it down as a hobby a while back due to wrist pain, but managed to remember enough of my skills to knit some chain into this piece recently.
I took way more photos than I'm sure anyone is interested in seeing, but I have to show these two - the first one is porcelain orbs made by soaking cloth with porcelain slip and then firing until the cloth burns away. The second is the artist's late father's car-exploring communal grief and mourning
I dragged myself out of bed this morning for a day of art appreciation with some friends despite feeling quite low in the ol' social battery, and as usual, I'm so glad I did. I rode two different vintage buses (one double decker), and saw lots of cool art in a super cool building with cool people.
I don't think I'm REALLY good at a lot of things, but I can confidently say I have a knack for using materials and mediums in unexpected ways, like this borderless UV resin pendant.
Went to visit the delightful @kittenmorag.bsky.social tonight for socialisation, and came back with TREASURE! Some pins, a patch, and oh, is that the novelisation of the classic movie HACKERS!? I love that my friends know what I'm going to love so well.
Yes, my hair is a disaster and I probably shouldn't be going out tonight given my brain at the moment, but I applied my black lipstick so perfectly tonight I'm practically OBLIGED to go out and share with everyone how how well I did at this challenging task.
I've been on a mission to perfect mimicking nice gooey blood spatter in UV resin and I think these earrings are a big success!
Interesting suggestion, but calling these earrings the "Hong Kong Special" feels a tiny bit racist, lol! I was looking for something fun to name them.
I'm having a lot of fun today perfecting my technique for using UV resin to mimic nice gooey blood and I reckon I've just about got it down with this batch. They're gonna be made into earrings very soon!
Had a great night out dancing at a long running local goth night last night, and was very proud of the neck piece I made for the occasion with some chain and a set of doll house knives.
