This was a happy encounter that lifted my spirits after the last several nasty smoke and heat days. The young people were so excited and bubbly. It was a reminder of reasons for hope. I hope it gives you hope too. My thoughts are with all affected by the fires…..and I mean all.
The best part of my stop was meeting a carload of young 20ish kiddos from LA who were here for the first time & who had never seen bison. I spent time with them warning about the rattlesnakes, teaching about red dogs & Glacial Lake Missoula that reached its highest point at the top of this ridge.
I had to head up to Mission for errands and noticed the bison gathered at the pond along the roadside. I made a note to stop on the way home. They were still out, so I grabbed some shots for your viewing enjoyment.
A good evening to all who pass by. 👋🦬 It’s 5 o’clock somewhere, isn’t it? The AQI is just under 100 today, but you can tell the heat over the last few weeks has browned and crisped up all the grass, kind of like living in an enormous air fryer. It’s a bit cooler too, signs of the season to come.
Good morning Bluesky, but it’s not blue here. ☕️👋 This is our morning sun. Although it’s a cool 48°, the AQI was 205 at this moment. No outdoors today! I hope your new week brings you good moments. 🧡🩶🧡
The AQI is currently 159, so after I finished my early morning chores, I’m staying indoors. There are mountains there, trust me. I hope your evening is gentle.
With the red sky and smoke it has been surreal and unbreathable. I’ve been masking outside and staying indoors as much as possible. At least the temp has dropped from Saturday’s high of 100°. This morning it is a chilly 54° at 7 AM and the AQI is less than 90. Stay safe everyone, everywhere.🌻
It’s hot, smoky, and very dry. The last two weeks of July and first week of August seem to be similar here each year. I’m ready for October, please. 🥵🌻🍂
Just a little dark humor. I don’t know who made this, but thank you. I laughed for the first time in a while.
Can I just have peony season on permanent and continuous repeat? I promise not to tire of these blooms. Please? #bloomscrolling
Here’s a peaceful view at a favorite spot for this Monday evening. The turtles have the right idea: we could all use a little more peace. 💜☮️💟
July 4th looks a little different around here. The 126th Arlee Celebration Esyapqeyni or Powwow has traditionally been held this week. At night, we can hear the drumming after the day’s noise quiets. Out of respect, one does not photograph the dancers, but a skyline with the tipis is OK.
It’s not #Caturday, but this girl is pushing my buttons. Duchess Daisy has this pose down pat. #catsofblueskywhat a charming little ham. 💗💞💗
Good morning to all you Bluesky-ers. ☕️👋🏼🏔️ Around here, visiting the CSKT Bison Range is an incomparable experience. At the top of Red Sleep Drive, you are at the highest level of Glacial Lake Missoula reached. You look east to the Missions, the mountains that stopped further glacial movement.
My second observation: right from the start, every funeral I have been to since I was 9 & everyone I have lost came roaring into my mind and sang their harmonies with us. Tears puddled, trickled and flowed for the gift of life and people known well & cherished along my way. (2 of2)
I sang with an ensemble at a funeral Mass this morning. No big deal, I’ve been singing with a choir, chorus or ensemble since I was nine. Today was different in two ways. Our ensemble was 6 women, a violin and an organ with an uncanny blend of tone and timbre. The sound was amazing. (1 of 2)
Not a great photo, but this gives you an idea of what the fields look like now before mowing. They are filled with wildflowers and various grasses.
More baled hay at the foot of the Missions. Does it get any better on the first day of summer?
#TheOutpost In other news, the veggies have recovered from the hail and frosty nights.
When we lived in Jenkintown, PA, the July 4th Parade was led by a band of bagpipes & drums. At 9 AM, the bagpipes would start up, heard easily in this tiny town. The Tartan Army videos bring back memories I had set aside over 20+ years in the dust of travels and time. I’m smiling. I’m remembering.
First year the root in, second year they grow the leaves and spread, third year they have rooted & grown enough to bloom. Then the last for decades with little work. The three year pattern is typical for perennials. 🌸
I found it at Goodwill for $5 when I first moved to MT in 2020. It’s hand stitched!
This was the first year of blooms for mine after having been planted in 2023. They are from your neck of the woods, the White Flower Farm.
If you are interested….this could be done on the boat if you have an oven or air fryer that bakes.
