The devil in black leathers, as Handler Iota has described Her as, chuckles coldly, sipping Her tea. “Quite the move you’ve made.” Juniper does not serve Her—not as she once did, but forever more recognizes Her authority. Running from Her did not prevent the inevitable, it was only a matter of time. It could be worse, she supposes. “You’ve learned well.”
Handler Iota sips from Her cup, a smug look written on Her face. “Hey, I learned from the best, didn’t I?” A deep laugh radiates from Her, as she reaches down to pet Juniper’s hair. “Nosa Bion is just another pawn, but she’s at least an interesting one. Worst comes to, well, the kennels will have a new denizen.”
“And yet, there’s more to it, isn’t there?” Handler Epsilon makes Her next move, removing a pawn from the board. Unlike Iota, Epsilon’s face is painted with curiosity. “Every day you prove my judgment in taking you on as my apprentice to be the correct one.” Another sip of tea, Epsilon once more waits in anticipation for the next move.

If She were watching right now, She would be laughing, but She is engrossed in the chess game.

A mecha story centered around love, death, and mechs. The world has long since gone through climate change and it's pretty fucked. Much of the world is controlled by an empire, with parts of Italy being contested by rebels. Wardog tells the story of one rebel ace - Juniper Sladek.

It was supposed to be a routine mission for Wardog Squadron—drop behind enemy lines, take down a radar station, get out of there. One last sortie, and then Juniper Sladek—along with her partner in every sense, Laila Praxian—would take an extended sabbatical for the first time in years.

Instead, everything went wrong.

Now Laila is MIA, Juniper’s mech has seen better days, and a mysterious woman in a gaudy Imperial uniform is holding Juniper captive and refusing to let her sleep. Can June escape and discover what happened to her beloved wife? Or will the Empire succeed in muzzling this rebel ace?
