We've done just this with the River Cuckmere at work and it's made a real difference. Will aim to install a kingfisher bank too. New sand martin bank at the nearby reservoir already occupied.

#BirdOfTheDay is best photo of May. Not sure this is the best I took but I think it's my favourite. This remarkable barn swallow, a real synanthrope if ever there was, has made the journey from southern Africa to the south east of the UK and was literally feathering its nest in a building at work.

Nice. I found one in Kent a month or so ago marked by a fabulous old hornbeam and yew. The OS map collection on the National Library of Scotland website is a great resource for this stuff. Hours of fun to be had.
First swallow of the year. These small little hirundines make the journey to the UK from southern Africa. They are a synanthropic species that, along with house martins and swifts, have adapted to life alongside humans often making nests in barns, outhouses etc.
At least Trump can't ruin the pleasures of birdwatching. Not a rare species in the south east of England but it's always a joy to see a Little Egret. #BirdOfTheDay
