I was reminded only yesterday how quickly times can change. I am reading a book on clock repair, as I have two to work on at the Repair Cafe tomorrow, and was struck by how familiar these references to "mail order", "Exchange and Mart" and "Yellow Pages" were, yet now seem a totally different world!

I'm encouraging the small mammals too, but the snakes, owls and other predators also need feeding. Caught this beautiful wood mouse under our kitchen cooker the other day (released amongst my trees and hopped off like a kangaroo). No house mice so far, but plenty of uninvited shrews!

We "did" Madagascar and Peru (Amazon) before having kids, though we don't fly these days. Even back then there were massive desolate areas in Madagascar and many hills like this, which were once covered in forest. With the trees gone the soil runs off and fills the lakes below.

The Mallards brought the invasive pond weed that forced me to kill all life in my first pond. I'm afraid I'm not usually glad to see them! They also eat my pond weed and stir up the sediment. The ducklings looked cute though!

Don't know if this is temporary, due to elections, or permanent. But the "Climate" shortcut on the BBC News website is now demoted to the "More" sub-menu. So any news regarding the Climate Crisis is officially less important than "Culture" or "Tech", amongst subjects. #BBC #ClimateChange

Indeed, you could say I'm a bit miffed about it.😉 I'd also just started making a desk and shelves for my daughter's room and bought a chunk of oak to remake our outdoor bench. The cast iron just needs cleaning/painting but the wood has passed on!

At least the grass is now part of the compost, where grass snakes have bread there these last several years. Mysteriously some flowers escaped the lethal death-machine. Perhaps I'm just a poor driver? Although the Ragwort has it's own safety barrier!😉

Damn, my wife has noticed that my version of "No Mow May" tends to start in early April. Have been cutting (most of) front "lawn", prior to her sister's kids expecting to play ball games on it next week. She has also realised my "May" ends in what short-lawn obsessives call "August" or "September".

I agree. We have Red and White Deadnettle in places. This is a small section of the "lawn" from last year.
