🌲Arborlands🌳
@arborlands
A nature-based city building game (solo and 4 player co-op), in development. 🌳🌲 Arborlands.com 🌴🌵 Find and grow a new home for your intrepid band of tree-dwelling animals!
Arborins just hangin' around their tree home. #conceptart #gamedev #animals #sketch
I opened up my IDE today and actually did some decent coding. I've been working on graphics so much recently, that it's nice to get back to coding. Despite having drawn almost all my life, coding is the part of game development that's easier for me.
Just a small outpost on the outskirts of our inhabited forest... #gamedev #indiedev #solodev #citybuilder
Concept sketches for the messenger outpost. Done on Sketchbook on iPad.
I now have a building progress icon that shows how close you are to building a new structure. I will add more visual cues to show construction in progress, though 🛠️. #gamedev #indiedev #videogames #basebuilder
I'm super excited to show you the ⭐new⭐ 2d #sprite for my player controllable unit in #arborlands! You're looking at 8 frames in 5 directions. 3 of the directions are simply mirrored to make for a full-8. ↖️⬆️↗️ ⬅️⏺️➡️ ↙️⬇️↘️ #gamedev #graphics #indiedev #gamedevelopment #nature #animal
Exploration is a big part of Arborlands. The game's world is made up of map tiles that you have to uncover. When you first start out, only your immediate surroundings are visible.
Welp... at least the amenities are friendly... (Just placeholder buttons for actual future amenities)
Prepping the arborin #animation to be added as an animated #sprite in the game. #graphics #2dgames #animal #gamedev #gamedevelopement #indiedev #devlog
So, there was this forest once... 🌳🌳🌳 #nature #forest #tree #gamedev #gamedevelopment #indiedev #indiegamedev #animal #videogame
Back to #animation! Starting with a wireframe that covers the range of motion. I'm doing some fine-tuning to make sure it looks right. 👀 #gamedev #indiegamedev #animate #animals #indiegamedev #indiedev
Developer's Sketchbook: I love the idea of animals exploring the world around them. Maybe for food, maybe for shelter, maybe sometimes for pure curiosity... ✨ #sketchbook #gamedevelopment #gamedev #conceptart #sketch #nature #trees
Working through the creation of a new troop type... 🐒 #gamedev #indiegames #indiegamedev #devvlog
#gamedev sketchbook entry: Here are some concept sketches for two other #animal species in the world of Arborlands. The bird is a gliding scavenger. The four-legged one is an apex terrestrial/arboreal predator filling a niche somewhere between lion and leopard. #nature #sketch #conceptart
Done with the north-facing #animation!! Here's the animation of both the "towards" and "away" #animations #gamedev #gamedevelopment #indiegamedev
Progressing now with color, but still no tail!! #animation #gamedev #graphics
Left - progress shot of the north-facing animation Right - completed south-facing animation being used as reference. #gamedevelopment #animation
Adding the front legs. Even though they will be hidden by the torso, I'm going to need to know what position they are in for the animation to work.
Starting on the north-walk animation. Wireframe for the rear legs is in place. ⬆️
For this looping #animation of a walk, I started with guide shapes for the hips and torso. The shapes that follow an oscillating pattern from side to side. Then I traced around them to make the actual body. #gamedev #gamedeveloper #animal #nature
Walking South ⬇️ Eight frames in this #animation cycle. It's the first one where I've had to actually animate the side-to-side sway of the animal. #indiegamedev #adobeanimate #gamedev
Frontways Arborin. The front-facing animation is done, now the away-facing animation begins! #digitalart #gameart #gamedevelopment
Arborlands is intended to capture the spirit of a wild natural world through the eyes of a newly intelligent animal species. #digitalart #gamedevelopement #gamedev #indiegamedev #gameart #nature #animal
