The ARC's new grant scheme table, in case you don't want to read through the details (which are here: www.arc.gov.au/system/files...)
So, @arc-gov-au.bsky.social: Why would the UK want to do this? Could it be that much shorter grant processing times are … a good thing? Could there be a competitive disadvantage in taking 4.8 times longer to process grants? What do you think, Minister @jasonclaremp.bsky.social?
It's simple: Researchers flag reviews they think are unprofessional & provide separate rejoinder for them. College of Experts judge: If review is unprofessional, it & scores are set aside. If not, additional rejoinder considered. Excerpt from community's proposal👇 treasury.gov.au/sites/defaul...
#ARCschedule Jul26 No outcomes expected. There’s not even a plan for schemes beyond Nov! Other events: 🔹Rejoinders: Laureate Fellowships (open & close); Discovery Projects (close). 🔹Selection meetings: DECRAs & Linkage Projects Data ▶️ docs.google.com/spreadsheets...
The ARC @arc-gov-au.bsky.social is up before Senate Estimates this Friday, at 4:15. Plenty of issues with the ARC right now – hope they're questioned! Last on the agenda, again, so let's hope they're not bumped by discussions about the ANU again. Estimates schedule ▶️ www.aph.gov.au/Parliamentar...
#ARCschedule Jun26 No outcomes expected. (Hardly surprising given how few schemes ARC are running!) Other events: 🔹Discovery Indigenous apps open 🔹Rejoinders open: LIEF & Discovery Projects 🔹Rejoinders close: DECRA & Linkage Projects Data ▶️ docs.google.com/spreadsheets...
#ARCschedule May26 update ARC added 2027 Future Fellowships & ITRP. Also providing 2-week outcome windows again! ARC removed rejoinder & SAC dates from Scheme Calendar. Info available in Assessor Handbooks for open schemes ▶️ www.arc.gov.au/funding-rese... Data ▶️ docs.google.com/spreadsheets...
Minister @jasonclaremp.bsky.social has vetoed funding for 13 ARC grants based on security grounds. “Security” is the only way they can veto individual grants anymore* (not just a whim like under the previous legislation). From ARC's “Update on Research Security” 👇 www.arc.gov.au/news-and-pub...
#ARCschedule May26 More than half way through 3-month (!) outcomes window for Linkage Projects (LP25r2). Other events: 🔹Rejoinders open: Linkage Projects and DECRAs Data ▶️ docs.google.com/spreadsheets...
The ARC has changed its generative AI policy, for both applicants and assessors ▶️ www.arc.gov.au/news-and-pub... The basic deal is summarised 👇 Full policy ▶️ www.arc.gov.au/publications...
#ARCschedule Apr26 3-month (!) outcomes window for Linkage Projects (LP25r2) continues. Other events: 🔹Apps close: Discovery Projects, Laureate Fellowships, and LIEF Data ▶️ docs.google.com/spreadsheets...
The Government released the final report of the Strategic Examination of R&D yesterday. It's called "Ambitious Australia"🙃 Haven't read much, yet, but it says we should fund the ARC more. Like every single previous review. Can we got on with it & do that, now? www.industry.gov.au/publications...
#ARCschedule Mar26 3-month (!) outcomes window for Linkage Projects LP25r2 begins 20 Mar. Other events 🔹Apps close: DECRA & Linkage Projects LP26 🔹Apps open: Discovery Projects & Laureate Fellowships 🔹Selection meetings: Industrial Transformation Hubs+Centres Data▶️ docs.google.com/spreadsheets...
We are a rich enough country to be funding 37% of all basic research proposals, not just considering "the best" 37% and then maybe only funding 12% in the end.
More info from ARC about 2027 DP EOI shortlisting ▶️ www.arc.gov.au/sites/defaul... 🔹37.0% success – 1733 of 4679 EOIs (more shortlisted; was 1127/4063=27.7% in 2026) 🔹”A total of EOIs were shortlisted in [the] ‘disparate scores’ process” – ARC stuff-up; didn’t give number. Breakdown across panels👇
The ARC have said (on LinkedIn) they will release outcomes for Discovery Projects Expressions of Interest (2027) tomorrow👇
#ARCschedule Feb26 Outcomes for Discovery Projects EOIs expected late Feb. Other events: 🔹Rejoinders: Future Fellowship open & close, Industrial Transformation Centres & Hubs close. Data ▶️ docs.google.com/spreadsheets...
Very common story from a follower👇 Even if you can avoid ARC’s ludicrously long time-scales & recruit via another country’s much more efficient system, you hit Australia’s immigration system. Barrier after barrier. It’s YEARS between idea & starting the research in Australia. The slooow country.
Article isn't paywalled, so you can read it all yourself, but here's what I said (↙️) & what ARC said (↘️).
#ARCschedule Jan26 update ARC announced huge delays & 3-month announcement windows (used to be 2 weeks). Delay in months per scheme: 🔹LP25: 1–4 🔹IC/IH26: 1–4 🔹FT26: 1–3 🔹LP26: 2.5–5.5 🔹LE27: 2–5 🔹DE27: 1.5–4.5 🔹DP27: 3–6 Just … appalling. Unworkable. Data ▶️ docs.google.com/spreadsheets...
⁉️The ARC has delayed outcomes of ALL grants 1–4 months & increased scheduled outcome windows from 2 weeks to 3 months! This reverses 4 years of progress in providing greater certainty & ability to plan for researchers, their families & unis. Their excuse? Security checks under new ARC legislation👇
#ARCschedule Jan26 No outcomes expected. Other events: 🔹Open: DECRA, LIEF & Linkage Projects 🔹Rejoinders open: Industrial Transformation Centres & Hubs Data ▶️ docs.google.com/spreadsheets...
The ARC have announced they’ll be running another round of Laureate Fellowships and Discovery Indigenous projects next year. These schemes were “paused” pending the review of the ARC grants system. Seems that is taking longer than expected … whoda thunk it? From www.arc.gov.au/news-publica...
I guess your Research Office will contact you if you're affected. If in doubt, contact them. You can see from these two excerpts from the ARC’s Discovery Program Guidelines why there’s confusion about this.
ARC says they’ll announce Centres of Excellence outcomes tomorrow (Tuesday 9th Dec). This is more than 2 months late, most likely due to the new security checking requirements for ARC grants. Centres of Excellence grants also need to have been approved by the Minister.
“This feels like yet another attack on our research community that is already under siege” Senator @davidpocock.bsky.social has issued a media release about the ARC's proposed restructure and job cuts 👇
#ARCschedule Dec25 Outcomes expected … at some point, for Centres of Excellence – now 5 weeks late! Other events: 🔹Close: Discovery Projects Expressions of Interest 🔹Take a damn break; you’ve more than earned it! Data ▶️ docs.google.com/spreadsheets...
ARC says they’ll announce DECRA and LIEF outcomes tomorrow (Tuesday 25th Nov). In recent times these announcements have been around 11am Canberra time. With 2 schemes on the same day, I assume they’ll announce one of them later in the day (probably DECRA first).
