In this image, the right rear of the locomotive (the end attached to the train) looks not aligned. But also the train came from where the workers at the top are. So the locomotive was either derailed or jumped the points at the switch by those workers (if that can happen?) or the points had moved.
Pfft. It’s not a very believable book anyway. Stretches one’s ability to suspend disbelief. I mean how could this ever happen:

I offer for your consideration the flour section of an average grocery store in Poland. Each of those are for different purposes: cakes, cookies, pizza dough, bread rolls, pierogi, crepes, gingerbread. There are not different grains or things like almond flour. Just normal wheat flour.
