Today I presented in front of Gough Whitlam. Thanked him effusively for expanding education & social equality Westie Pride 😊
Very low key but efficient voting in the Scottish Election this morning. Only a couple of volunteers handing out HTVs (for SNP and Greens). The weirdest thing was voting X (no ranking, no numbers!). Missing the cake stall & democracy sausage 😭
10 years since Prince died 😢 This mural was in Alexandria in Sydney, not there any more but beautiful while it lasted 💜
I get 2 votes: for my local constituency MP & a regional vote Though who the hell are some of these parties standing for the regional vote in Glasgow?? 😳
Some days I get overwhelmed and worried by the intergenerational effects of AI on work and education - and this article taps into that www.smh.com.au/national/wha...
Includes my endorsement, and that of my great former colleague at ANU Sonia Palmieri !
This new book Women’s Pathway to Power arrived today - edited by my great friend @acarson.bsky.social
I arrived in Glasgow a year ago today! I love the city & feel like I’m making a life here After 25+ years working in Australian unis the adaptation to a Scottish/UK context has been a steep learning curve (with a bumpy road ahead) But I have this stunning view from my office & great colleagues too
I’m in Berlin & have always been interested in the Stolpersteine or stumbling stones commemorating Jewish holocaust victims I spotted these today near Humboldt Uni - academics hounded out of their jobs before they either fled or were sent to camps We need to learn from this history, not repeat it
A long day, but watching a Glasgow sunset & moonrise from my office was quite lovely
Autumn is stunning in Glasgow - all the colours 😍 But why do so many little local parks prohibit the best people - dogs?
Today I’m co-hosting @uofgsocsci.bsky.social a workshop on Narratives, stories & listening for public policy with great colleague @clemmiehilloconnor.bsky.social We are hoping to build from Glasgow outwards a UK & broader community of scholars across social policy, political studies & media&com
Interesting article by Ian Chubb. I was not at ANU when he was VC so can’t comment on that But his insight on the role of university leaders is key -too many do not talk with or listen to the uni community, too many are too scared to change their minds www.canberratimes.com.au/story/906608...
Even more surprising when I read that Kyle has a PhD in community development…
I’m at the annual conference of the European Group for Public Administration this week. @uofgsocsci.bsky.social is ably hosting & Organiser in chief @ianelliott.bsky.social should be very proud 👏 The welcome from the lord provost of the city of Glasgow was warmly special too
Sun was shining so I went to the Ayr coast today. Can’t believe I’ve lived in Scotland for 6 months! Longest I’ve ever been away from Sydney too
Nice reminder in SMH of the ideological intent of Jobs Ready Graduates fees in Arts & Social Sciences courses in Australia Tho curious that Rock, Pop & Resistance is so cheap. Everyone signup now!
Just tuning into the #hottest100 for the top 20. Accepting that I will not have voted for a single song! (maybe January 26 & Alone with you will sneak in?) But seriously - where are the women? 13 out of 80. Oz has so many incredible women singers/leading bands!
Lovely walk in the Lake District today, & made it down the fell before the storm
Showing my age again in voting for my Top 10 in the triplej 100 best Australian songs 🤷🏻♀️
Glorious Scottish Highlands/Trossachs The second photo from 9pm last night, just before a family of deer crossed our path
Ive spent my whole adult life studying & working in universities. I do believe we need to change the narrative about what we do. But this peculiarly politicised anti-intellectualism is depressing and harder to overcome www.theage.com.au/national/a-k...
I’m Australian! Was lucky to vote postal from Glasgow due to the fabulous AEC. Fine still only $20
