Bear in the chair! Why is there a three-storey bronze statue of a grizzly bear in an Abraham Lincoln pose in a chair with fasces? 🤷♀️ It seemed like a good idea at the time?
By the time you’ve been dead for 80 years, chances are everything you ever said or wrote will be thrown in the garbage or scrambled by bit rot. The only surviving information about you will probably be this form. Think of how happy your descendants will be if you got the long form!

This one appears to be disc-shaped, with four circles cut out, which is a little bit different from the shape of an iron cross, although young Republicans may indeed not be fussy about the distinction. I’m also looking at the chunky signet ring and suspecting that it’s a historical reproduction.
The only other example I know if is the front facade of Osgoode Hall in Toronto. It’s also a legal institution, and this bit was built in 1860. (Pic by Toronto Journey 416)

I didn’t realize Borden’s was an American company. We have a photo of an Elsie billboard from circa 1944 at the City of Toronto Archives, but it’s much tamer than these ads.

I wonder if thirteenth-century Circassian saddles looked like present-day ones? In that case, it could be some word for high, or cushioned. What’s the text? I’d like to read something that mentions Circassians that early.

The sidewalk just south of that intersection was a huge peeve of mine when I lived in the neighbourhood. The east side feels unsafe because cars whip in and out of the plaza at any point in a 150m stretch, but the west side is so narrow that one stroller can block the whole thing.
There’s another version of this scene a few kilometres away in the Petruskerk in Woldendorp. I feel like this may be about a local legend, perhaps involving the intervention of a saint. #medievalsky
Look at these medieval guys having a trial by combat! I’ve never seen an image like this before. Throwing spears with fletching? Lamellar skirts? It’s from a church in the northern Netherlands, 14th c., but thought to be based on a 12th-century example.
