Programmer since the ZX80 days when a computer came as a kit you had to solder together yourself (and so long ago it was in black & white). Never been to pick up my A Level results, only ever worked for my own company.🇪🇺 ⬆️ Front garden, FR ⬇️ Cambridge
It's no wonder. We have a government with little, if any, experience of running an SME. What businesses need to contribute to "per capita GDP growth" is EU SM+CU so they can effortlessly export to the EU again.
The politicians claim we have got public transport - although I consider 1 bus per week (10:08 to St Neots, return 2.5 hours later on a Thursday) to be an inadequate service for work, school, shopping, health services etc... Until this is fixed cars remain essential.
This is wheely interesting, I went to bring in my bin and I stumbled across this #CountBinface rally! The binfluencers are ready to throw in their support.
A lovely day watching everyone graduate…or at least I think that’s what was going on. Hard to be certain, given the ceremony was in ecclesiastical Latin, mine regrettably, is not up to scratch.
I thought the energy policy levies were moved to general taxation, so people are still paying them just not on their electricity bill? From Ofgem's website:
It demonstrates the risk of relying on renewables that are not paired with long-term electricity storage. It's that lack of grid-scale electricity storage technology that leaves us dependent on gas (currently 50.7% of UK generation).
A bright, but wind-free morning and 53.0% of UK electricity is coming from gas fuelled power stations. If we got rid of the gas (our main source of stored energy) I guess we'd be demand management mode (= turning off the grid for big users before everyone else).
Yesterday shows how precarious relying on renewables, without electricity storage, is. Yesterday, because it was not windy gas had to step in and provided 44.8% of the generation. Fascinating graphs to explore from the link above.
A hot day is bad for : 🔥Gas power (overheats generators) ⚛️Nuclear power (cooling water intake too warm) ☀️Solar power (more heat = less efficiency) 🌊Hydroelectric (less water, slower moving) 💨Wind power (high pressure = less wind) 😬Your electricity bills (£545.21 per MWh up from £85.38 earlier today)
I agree GDP is a crude measure, but it was Labour’s top priority in their 2024 manifesto. If they don’t want to be judged on it, maybe they shouldn’t have included it in the first place?
What do you make of this dishonesty in a *District Council Election*? Huntingdonshire District Council deal mainly with bins, sports centres and planning... - Cost of living not really a DC matter - Road safety is a county matter - NHS is a Westminster matter
BBC News this morning...I'm not sure the graphics are wise for a supposedly independent news channel.
Cambourne is still waiting for its "thriving High Street" and swimming pool 25 years later. South Cambs District Council are ineffective at enforcing these developer promises. This scrappy field is where the High Street should be...
In June 2025, I filled out an online form to confirm household members over 16, but despite its title, "IMPORTANT - Please confirm your voter registration information now," it was not actually voter registration. To register use the link in the post above.
My FOI request indicates that it's the LibDem run county council that is failing to supervise the contractors fixing the potholes. Of 2,403 repairs only 122 were inspected and of those 122 only 10 were repaired (for free) by the contractor. Surely more contractor supervision is needed?
What is Trump going on about saying the DOW is at 50,000...it's down to 45,577. Doesn't he realise people can check?
Hey @octopus.energy, it’s now been 12 days of repeated promises that a refund is on the way, yet nothing has arrived.
Companies House admit to a major data breach for directors who used their WebFiling service since October 2025 - and that'll be almost all directors ,and people of significant control, since the new ID verification requirements were introduced from November. Not good!
Is it just me or is "Rewrite with Copilot (Alt+I)" not working any longer in Edge Version 145.0.3800.58? The popup dialog box just sits there doing nothing.
streetingforleader.co.uk registered 11 Nov 2025 just a day before raynerforleader.co.uk What do you make of that?
Maybe, so why did Labour ask us to gauge their success based on the "highest GDP growth in the G7" as the metric for success? I agree GDP is not the perfect metric but that's what they promised to deliver. Reminder below...
@madskristensen.net I notice images are not displayed if there is a tab character before the ![ (see image below). Why is that?
Being located in an area just 1m above (current) sea levels has always seems odd to me as well.
