8. Berlin serves as a powerful reminder that information professionals are active stewards of cultural memory. Seeing how Berlin’s difficult histories are archived, stewarded, and curated offers valuable lessons for preserving cultural heritage in today's political and ecological challenges.

7. Berlin is as much a center for contemporary art as it for historical memory. We visited an incoming installation Kunsthaus Dahlem & Giuliana Prucca, an independent curator, researcher, and writer based in Berlin. We also learned about contemporary artists archiving at the Akademie der Künste.

6. We explored the Cold War period at the Stasi Archives, the Mauer Memorial, and the Kunsthaus der Achim Freyer Stiftung, and the complexity of stewarding materials during a period of censorship and limited freedom of movement.

5. At the Deutsches Historisches Museum, we discussed their collection of Nazi-era books and materials and how to ethically document this period of history.

4. While not technically in Berlin, our trip to the Bauhaus building in Dessau helped us contextualize Germany—and by extension, Berlin—in the interwar period.

3. We began with Berlin's early history. At the Staatsbibliothek historic city maps traced the city's development while photographs by Marie Panckow at the Berlinische Galerie documented Berlin before the widespread bombing that occurred during WWII (bottom photo courtesy of the Berlinische Galerie)

2. This year’s Berlin study tour group explored public libraries, archives, memorials, museums, galleries, artists and art institutions. Because of its complex history Berlin offers the opportunity to learn how cultural memory has been stewarded across periods of profound political and social change

Psych! Gotcha! Our last day in *Berlin* was yesterday, but we took a day trip out to Dahlem to close out the study tour. We braved the heat and got to see both the main workshop and the houses of the masters (including a Mies van der Rohe original snack shop).

We're also grateful to the Kunsthaus Achim Freyer Stiftung (and Achim Freyer himself!!) for the tour of the house and hosting our closing reception. If you have the opportunity, the house is a must see. Not pictured: all of our jaws on the floor at the collection upstairs... 2/2

Life is like a hurricane... here in... Berlin? With stops at the Stasi archive, the Deutsches Historisches Museum, and closed the day with a invited visit to the home/workshop of Giuliana Prucca for a discussion of how she works with artists to capture and compliment their practice in book form! 1/2

Day 2! Scenes from public libraries from both sides of the Wall, the Jewish Museum, and the Berlinische Galerie as well as a group photo! It's incredible to see how different GLAM institutions reckon with the space they occupy and the collections they share.

Day 1 and ARLISians were welcomed by the Kunstbibliothek at the Kulturforum, the Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin, and the Ibero-Amerikanisches Institut Collection gems were poured over, architecture was marveled at, and we can't wait to dive back in today! #skybrarians #GLAMsky #ArchitectureSky
