No better feeling as a creative will top how I feel when I feel like I’ve nailed the gesture in a drawing.
STOKED for new Thundercats comics! The opening to the show is maybe my favorite piece of animation, ever. Always gets me so amped up to draw! Throwback to a few years ago when I drew Cheetara for the 6 fanart challenge! I want to turn this into a sticker!
This prelim was sosososo fun!! Can't wait to tackle the final (with a 005 micron cause yeesh)!
I really wanted to share this before I retool it. I pitched my previous job a multi-week illustration workshop that would culminate w/the class getting to sell prints and stickers of their work at a comic shop on free comic book day. For (not great tbh) reasons outside my control, it didn’t happen.
Working on my first comic in close to a decade and the cover to my first zine! Lotta’ good stuff coming up soon!
For the record, both Marvel and DC have this problem when it comes to the movies. Every once in a while we get some good stuff but it's not common. I like the promo for Brand New Day as a recent example. But I LOVED IT when they let Paolo Rivera go to work.
Tiny but mighty haul from the used book store. I can only go to this place every few months because they have wayyyyyyy too many things I want!
This is the most fun thing in the entire world tbh!!! Digging really deep into all my childhood influences and throwing it all into a blender to figure out this design for my guy Darwyn!
Alfred Hitchcock triple prelims! Still experimenting with pen and ink after years of not doing much of that. Figured out that I would probably have more success switching to the vellum surface cards versus these which are more textured and not smooth. Fun to mess around with though!
Had an amazing day today with @jasonpiperberg.bsky.social and Patch! Always so much fun getting together but this was so special! We’ve been working on this comic since 2018 and today we handed out our collected edition for free! The notes at each book pile was my contribution to the table haha
Tomorrow @jasonpiperberg.bsky.social, myself and our mentor Patch will be at Valley Forge giving away free signed copies of Patriot Tales! A comic about diverse unseen heroes of history that you won’t learn about in school. Here’s ads for the event I designed! One for socials one for park screens!
Having just a relentless amount of fun drawing! I can’t wait to attempt to reinterpret his style in the head. It’s going to be a fun challenge.
I was PRODUCTIVE last night. These cards are what I consider to be a prelim. Basically me just playing around seeing what does/doesn’t work. Line art was done with brush pens, which leads me to want microns so I can improve my line quality. Love the Mike and Sully and the middle Gollum attempt.
Hey folks! Question: I want to start selling these artist trading cards at shows and online! I have no idea how to price them. What is the going rate? The options will be these: colored pencil or heavily detailed ink pieces. I’d like to price them both the same as they require equal effort!
This is so good!! This is an amazing Z composition! Inking by Joe Sinnott is so complementary here! Really great example of how an inker (and amazing coloring that I gotta use at some point wow) can elevate the work.
Erik Larsen’s Spider-man work is so so cool. I think that guys artwork is so underrated. He strikes a perfect 50/50 split between technical cartoony and American comics that I really appreciate. Just so much fun.
First time really going hard with color pencil in a million years and WHEW that was fun!
Testing! Testing! One, two, maybe three?? Please recommend me some quality colored pencils please and thank you!!
I am now officially unemployed. But look at this rippin’ prelim of Gollum!
Going extremely well for a prelim! Dammit now I gotta buy a good camera.
Big big clue as to where my head is going moving forward. Guess I gotta dig out my line layers and figure out printing blue line.
My originals used to be pretty wild. I'm very excited to go back to this level of messy and use everything I've learned since this work and see what I spit out now. This is all stuff from like, 2017!
I gave up on traditional art around 2019 when I got my iPad and went all digital. One of the bright spots in this wildly difficult year is finding real joy going back to drawing on paper again. It’s been so great and I’m excited about jumping head first back into it with sketch cards and more!
Thumbnailing begins! First look at what will be the biggest, nerd filled project I’ve ever done. I genuinely have no idea how long this is going to take but I’m very stoked and very grateful!
Putting the music ones back out for the first time in a while and THAT was fun. Didn't sell the most, but it generated so much convo! I still really love the work I did on these. I had an infinite amount of fun making them!
