"People want a movement that stands for something and this is what this is right here," Chakrabarti said. "The thing that has kept me going is all of you. We have built a community. The positivity and the joy is really the antidote for what we have in this country."
In his speech, Chakrabarti warned that the race was not over. He lowered his supporters' expectations by comparing his campaign to Bernie Sanders', in which he did not win but so much came out of it.
San Francisco residents are happy to be at Saikat's election party celebrating this moment together and eagerly waiting for the election results. The gathered audience at the election party leans on the younger side.
The first set of results came in and they don’t look good for Saikat. But this first set of results are mainly from mail ballots and people that are 65+ years old. So organizers say they are feeling hopeful because of their team of young and progressive volunteers.
