This year I've had one of the worst creative blocks of my life. But today I managed to get to a bit I've been thinking about for months. Onwards and downwards.
In my spare time I've been working on a planetary terrain renderer for some mythical low-poly game I'll never make. This is what I have after a couple of weeks of reading research papers and pecking at a keyboard.
Clovelly in Devon. A village nestled within a very steep cove. Saw some dolphins in the harbour, scroffled three dogs, but the walk back up to the top of the village very nearly killed me.
Currently reading: The Dark Between the Trees by Fiona Barnett. Five women enter an English wood where a group of parliamentarian soldiers disappeared nearly 400 years ago. "Outside, the leaves of the gigantic oak tree that linked them to the past rustled in the ghost of a breeze."
Found a thing called Strudel today, which is a programming language for music and synths. So I made some crappy techno or something. It's pretty cool, but I don't think I could be arsed to do it full time, nothing beats the immediacy of plucking a string.
Nature's tidy-uppers. A horse had a haircut outside today, and the jackdaws bloody love it. Look at their little hairy beaks.
Started a new Skin Imps album today. The rough start to a long road.
Just spotted the first swallow of spring. It always amazes me that they make it all the way back here. Not sure where this particular group come from, but I bet the flight is proper knackering.
I think there needs be a reassessment of Comic Sans. I changed the main font of my operating system to it, and I don't hate it. I also think it sits very well with death metal.
Hey guys, welcome back to my channel. Here's my super productivity setup for 2026. A local-first note-taking app, with deep versioning history, fast index-based data storage, and assistant powered by bovine intelligence.
Finger's crossed Notion's new AI agents can export all my data and delete my account for me.
Foolishly decided to install Windows on my PC yesterday to see if things have improved. What an absolute shower of shite. Back on Fedora today.
My dad passed away on Sunday, so here's a few pictures as a tribute. Edward "Terry" Wilson, champion jockey, 1936-2026.
The plot of my current work-in-progress. Sure, it looks pretty now... but wait until the wheels fly off and it all explodes in my stupid face.
Working on a Vulkan renderer at work today, and you no idea just how long and how much code it took to get this triangle to show up. This is it lads, down tools, take the rest of the day off.
This weeks hyperfixation has been vintage Casio calculators (thanks brain). Particularly their product catalogues. I love a good catalogue (who doesn't?), but look at the buttons on this, blimey. Max Headroom approved.
Christmas finally comes to North Wales on the only day I needed to drive somewhere.
Excellent book haul this chrimbo. New (old) Jeff Noon, 2 different versions of 1984, ghosts, stone circles, Nigerian SF. What have I chosen to read? None of them, Day of the Triffids for some reason. What are you reading now?
Squiggle on a quick break before heading back to the office. Them accounts aren't going to tabulate themselves.
The time is rapidly approaching to get these bangers back in the eyeballs.
There's quite a few pubs and taverns featured in various Hammer films. Also, there's a Wetherspoon's in Whitstable called The Peter Cushing.
It's September, 12 degrees and raining. Mr. Freeze doesn't give a shit, look at him laughing. Now I am become death, he says.
