Saad has defined suicidal empathy as “the inability to implement optimal decisions when our emotional system is tricked into an orgiastic, hyperactive form of empathy, deployed on the wrong targets.” On a recent episode of Trinity Broadcast Network’s Stakelbeck Tonight, host Erick Stakelbeck asked Saad whether “open borders and mass Islamic migration to the West [are] great examples of suicidal empathy.” Saad relied, “Arguably the best example of it.”

Take, for instance, the party for Madeline Cash’s debut novel, Lost Lambs, held in January and sponsored by Book of the Month, with creative support from FSG. Book of the Month CEO John Lippman says that his team let Cash, a graduate of Lower Manhattan’s notorious Dimes Square literary scene, take creative charge. Cash was responsible for most of the party’s stylish touches, including mandatory cocktail attire and the panoramic skyline view from atop Nine Orchard Hotel.
