Vaccines do not cause Autism*

Pursuant to the Data Quality Act (DQA), which requires federal agencies to ensure the quality, objectivity, utility, and integrity of information they disseminate to the public, this webpage has been updated because the statement "Vaccines do not cause autism" is not an evidence-based claim. Scientific studies have not ruled out the possibility that infant vaccines contribute to the development of autism. However, this statement has historically been disseminated by the CDC and other federal health agencies within HHS to prevent vaccine hesitancy.

HHS has launched a comprehensive assessment of the causes of autism, including investigations on plausible biologic mechanisms and potential causal links. Fresh on the heels of a heat wave, heavy storms ripped through Lancaster County over the Fourth of July weekend, downing trees, damaging homes and cars, and causing tens of thousands to lose power, some for several days.

Being prepared for power outages can help you keep your refrigerated and frozen food safe until electricity is restored and things are back to normal. FoodSafety.gov and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration share some things you can do to be prepared.

Freeze containers of water to help keep food cold in the freezer, fridge or coolers. If your water supply gets contaminated, you can melt the ice and drink the water.
Keep the fridge and freezer doors closed as much as possible. An unopened fridge will keep food cold about four hours. A full freezer will hold its temperature for about 48 hours (half that time if it’s half full).
Instead, fill buckets, empty milk cartons or cans with clean water, place them outside to freeze, then put the “homemade” ice in your fridge, freezer or coolers.
And, when the power goes out, freeze refrigerated items such as leftovers, milk and fresh meat and poultry that you won’t need immediately. This helps keep them at a safe temperature longer.

Ohio "Importuning" Law May Face State Supremes

JEFFERSON, OH — An Ohio law which makes it a crime to sexually proposition someone of the same sex may be challenged in the Ohio Supreme Court, the gay newspaper Gay People’s Chronicle reports.

Ohio’s "importuning" law makes it is a first-degree misdemeanor to solicit a "person of the same sex to engage in sexual activity, knowing that such solicitation was offensive to the other person or being reckless in that regard." The law does not apply to members of the opposite sex.

The paper says that police often cite the statute in making arrests at cruising areas. Gay men are brought up for violating the statute if they so much as hint to an undercover that they are interested in sex.

The case that may go before the court concerns Eric Thompson, who solicited a jogger. The jogger declined Thompson’s advance and he shrugged it off, but the jogger later complained to police.

Thompson’s attorney, Marie Lane, moved to dismiss the charge, arguing that the state law violates federal and state constitutional guarantees to equal protection under the law. The trial court rejected the motion. As the defendant was on parole for an earlier burglary conviction, Thompson was sentenced to jail and given an additional six months on the "importuning" violation.

Laws on how the left lane is to be used (like so many driving laws) vary by state in the US. You'd be correct in 30 states.

States fall into three main categories. The strictest states require all vehicles to use the left lane only for passing or turning left. These include Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Massachusetts, and New Jersey. The second group requires slower traffic to keep right but allows left lane driving if you’re keeping pace with traffic flow. The third group has minimal restrictions, only requiring lane changes when you’re actually impeding traffic.

Not me over here thinking the complaint is the inclusion of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (smaller branches) but not the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the big one) and missing that the LDS lacks “Christian —” in front of it.
