Stoney Middleton welldressings are usually good. This year they are stunning.

Welldressing in the traditional Derbyshire style. Ornate board which reads 1936, 2026, Stoney Middleton, side panels of flowering plants, sleeping rabbits bottom left, sleeping dormouse bottom right. The central panel shows a barn owl in moonlight sitting on a branch. Poem reads:
I fly above
the fields at night
beneath the moon's pale silver light
I know the hedgerows, streams and trees
the whispered secrets of the breeze
For earth is not just ours to keep
but a promise made to those who sleep

Tideswell welldressing holding up amazingly well in the heat, just a little characterful crazing. Glyn Williams' website www.welldressing.com/index.php is an excellent resource.

Large traditional Derbyshire welldressing (an image constructed out of petals and other natural materials pressed closely into wet clay, displayed vertically) Images are Peveril Castle centrally, a scene from the Bayeux tapestry below, local scenes in narrow panels at the side, the castle as it used to be above, a stag's head and two unusual circular protusions showing the 'bleu' and 'jaune' striping of Blue John stone.

Ay oop Mary. Managed the first well dressing visit of the season last night.

A traditional well dressing, a picture on a large upright board created with petals. Someone thought it was good:

A lot of magic is very flashy and wrapped up in a lot of performance and theatrics. This means that George's much more straightforward approach combined with some engaging storytelling, and of course some clever tricks is really refreshing and stands out.

George combines an effortlessly affable personality with a genuine fascination for magic. Some of these tricks are about clever handwork, but far more impressive are the ones about clever headwork. Some of his performance is based around a really good understanding of numbers and geometry - which isn't normally my thing, but the way in which is done is not just enjoyable, it's legitimately very impressive.

I saw this show on a bit of a whim and I'm glad I did!
