A writer of historical fiction set in ancient Rome & Greece — and a blog about our adventures in Tuscany. Splitting time with California. Sempre in cerca della prossima storia. Website: marktedesco.com
The research is done. The writing is finished. I think Magi is a great story, and I'm grateful to have lived in it. How it does commercially isn't up to me — and it's secondary. What matters is the story, and the odyssey of wonder it invites readers on. Out this November.
Something I didn't expect researching Magi (my historical novel, out this November): priests and Magi overlapped, but had different roles. Priests served the god, tending the sacred flame. Magi served the people — reading dreams, studying the heavens, advising kings.
Finalmente ammetto, per iscritto, a cosa usavo il bidet italiano. Non era quello a cui serve. Nuovo post online. www.marktedesco.com/it/blog
Right now I'm mailing out copies of Magi — my historical novel, out this November — to reviewers and writers I admire. My hope is that some will read it, maybe even review it. Sending a book into the world feels a little like sending a child out into it: how will he do?

Even though I've finished writing my historical novel, Magi — 400 pages! — I still come to the library every day: getting it reviewed, building the marketing, writing about life in Italy, chasing a few smaller projects. It never stops. But this is what a purposeful retirement looks like to me.
One of the strangest things I found researching Magi (my historical novel, out this November): the Dead Sea Scrolls describe a people living with a sense of expectation for the messiah, almost at fever pitch. Was this perhaps one factor that put King Herod on edge?
One of the strangest stories I found researching Magi (my historical novel, out Nov 1): an Italian slave girl, gifted to a Parthian king by Rome, became Queen within a few years — then talked him into exiling his other sons, clearing the throne for her own son. Then she poisoned him
One of the first things that intrigued me researching Magi (my historical novel, out this November): they were not kings. That tradition started as an effort to make Christ's birth fit Old Testament prophecies. What they actually were: a priestly caste of Parthia, trained to study the heavens.
Un americano di ottant'anni mi ha detto che trasferirsi ad Assisi è stata la decisione migliore della sua vita — anche se i suoi figli pensano che abbia perso la testa. Il nuovo post: Vivere in Assisi. #Umbria #VivereInItalia www.marktedesco.com/it/blog
An 80-year-old American told me moving to Assisi was the best decision of his life — even though his kids think he's lost his mind. Today's blog breaks down what it's really like to live near St. Francis's tomb, town by town, cost by cost. www.marktedesco.com/blog #Umbria #LivingInItaly
Five years since the idea. Two and a half years living in the ancient world — and I already miss it. Today, Magi arrived.

2 Roman soldiers in the 4th century. A bond that showed itself stronger than death. Convictions an emperor's decree could not break. I am John I am Paul — the true story of men whose loyalty to their belief, and to each other, outlasted everything. #HistoricalFiction #AncientRome a.co/d/05fyD2Wm

Jetlagged and tired after the trip from Rome to Palm Springs. But healthy routines cannot wait. Happy weekend to you
