This excellent news, except for me, author of the pending article "Why Andy Burnham should pledge to end rough sleeping"
Per fotmob, the average goalkeeper would be expected to concede 2.27 goals from Spain's shots. Outrageous stuff from Emi Martinez so far, hate to say
Not everything bad is Trumpist, come on now. And where to start on this? Argentina doesn't have self-doubt? The country was driven hysterical, hounding Messi to retirement in the big trophy drought between 1993 and 2021.
Hoping my advice to Burnham is a bit more... idiosyncratic: study Boris Johnson and figure out how not to be him. aveekbhattacharya.substack.com/p/andy-burnh...
I basically agree, and say so in the piece! But saying a person is in some significant ways like X clearly doesn't mean they are in all ways like X or identical, come on.
The good thing about Mr Blobby patriotism - in contrast to, say, this recent list of things people in every country do (don't mean to pick on @npjgarland.bsky.social, just an example close to hand) - is that it is distinctively British. It's concrete and specific, not abstract and generic.
This was a very interesting piece from @econromesh.bsky.social but I wonder how far it invalidates the premise that trust in economists has risen in the last decade, among both remain and leave voters yougov.com/en-gb/articl...

Having looked it up, Trump has apparently delivered around half of project 2025, which is more than I would have expected - probably because of the lack of legislative action and chaotic foreign/trade policy progressivereform.org/tracking-tru...
This seems like worse science. For starters I'm not sure you can say the educational reforms in the US, England and Sweden are even the same sort of thing.
The response to the prospect of Ed Miliband, clearly the candidate with the most qualifications and relevant experience to be Chancellor, getting the job have really been a litmus test for who's ideological and who's technocratic, eh?

🤷♀️ Most people identify Labour as left-leaning, basically as you would expect. In fact, the general public perceive Starmer's Labour as being further to the left than political scientists do yougov.com/en-gb/articl...
English tabloid xenophobia really is impressively creative sometimes
Asked AI to try and reconstruct Roberts' sympathetic interpretation of Churchill's views on race, and bloody hell
Gabriel Garcia Marquez believed only three important things happened in Colombia in the 20th Century, one of which was the publication of his book
I think this sort of whataboutery is a little unfair, but it's fun* to remember that Keir Starmer once pledged to make Britain "the best country to grow up in" and then...shelved the line for five years *Not fun labourlist.org/2020/09/labo...
It *may be* the case that young people are drawing reasonable conclusions. Equally, it *may* simply be that they are anxious and pessimistic (like their counterparts across at least the English speaking world). This research doesn't tell us either way. www.ippr.org/articles/bri...
Read @hannohilbig.bsky.social on why accommodation with the anti-immigrant right fails, and how we can evaluate the causal impact of policy stances on voter opinion Watched the brilliant end of Hacks At some pasta with asparagus and hazelnuts a la Piedmont.
