@babyboomerelder
I am a 78-year-old baby boomer who just became a widower, trying to find a way to be social again.
When the majority of mysteries and myths are solved or explained, life can quickly become mundane.
I moved my wife and me more than 100 miles from our home area on the promise that a relative here would help, as she was deteriorating with dementia; very little help. More than six months since her passing, I have yet to meet a friend willing to join me for coffee on my porch here. Church may help.
Since I returned to attending church, I keep some of my questions private. Bottom line? I need to be social. I write down the names of the people I meet in order to ensure that I remember them; my 79 yo mind can't be trusted with names.
Coming to terms with being a widower has been an arduous process. I often feel like giving up. However, what would giving up mean?
When I was younger, my mother told me to find and marry a Polish woman. I tried three other women, and my late wife was of Italian descent, and we lasted 41 years. I am old but still active, and maybe now I can find that Polish soulmate.
What surprises me is not the achievements of humanity but that humanity has not self-destructed.
Not THE USA I knew: relocation location, including state taxes and cost of living, cost of healthcare, weather conditions, etc. One of the most significant factors is safety. According to data compiled by the FBI, violent crime against senior citizens increased by 331% between 2013 and 2023. HELP!
There are more pathogens in the air and on the earth, doctor, than are dreamt of in your philosophy.
I have been married three times, each time for love. My late wife and I were married for about forty years; I wish that she had been the first woman I had married.
In this Brave New World, we do not rely on governments to feed us Soma, we "self-medicate" and beat them to it. In Brave New World, Soma is used as a universal, state‑controlled drug to keep citizens calm, happy, compliant, and emotionally numb.
Some things matter a great deal, some things not so much, and some things not at all.
The wonder of the magnificent Monarch Butterfly and its up to a 3000 mile migration to the central Mexican mountains. They benefit if humans plant the only plant their larvae feed on: Milkweed.
Yesterday was my 79th birthday; no one visited me, and only one card arrived from one of my six brothers.
How living things navigate and live their lives seemingly with minds beyond what their brains suggest may be attributed to a connection to the universal cosmic consciousness. The cosmos is the source and the connection.
Dear Democrats in Congress, it may be an 85-year cliche, but if Democrats are for the common people and Republicans are for the rich, it sure doesn't appear to be a myth. Rumors of backdoor deals abound. @housedemocrats.bsky.social @hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social @schumer.senate.gov
My dog seems relaxed when I practice guitar and sing, but my cat seems to believe I am entertaining him.
Local nuclear power sources are entering a major transition phase in 2026, driven by the rise of small modular reactors (SMRs) and microreactors. They are smaller, factory‑built, portable, and far easier to site. Several new reactors can use recycled fuel, depleted uranium, and transuranics.
Do you wonder why the new data centers are so elaborate and power-hungry? Here is a simple comparison to the way we obtained data online before.
I will be 79 and I recall my GrandPa, who was in his 60s, took me to watch the steam locomotives coming from North Jersey during rush hour in the 1950s. He also told me about the time wagons were common and how he would watch a sailing ship go over the horizon. He drew that on a piece of paper.
Beginning with the ancient Greek thinkers who recognized that moderation and balance are important in this world for humanity to progress in a positive direction.
When my late wife was ill, and there was no doubt she was dying, I looked for a companion to ease the stress of caregiving; I got promises that turned out to be scams. It would be nice to share life with a woman who may be an artist too, loves nature, and simple things we can share.
How different was the 1950s? My friend and I found an old breech-loading 0.22 rifle. We were 10 years old. We gathered bottles and got enough return money for 0.22 ammunition, no questions asked at the hardware store. We created a practice range on a hill and learned to shoot. Helped me in the Army.
I grew up with Superman and this American Ideal: The 1948 Superman film serial changed the motto to “Truth, Tolerance and Justice.” “American Way” was added again in the 1950s Adventures of Superman. Sad that this turned out to be a fragile myth. @housedemocrats.bsky.social
Change will be slow in coming, I fear: AI: While it is technically possible for individuals with narcissistic traits or Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD) to change, experts note that true, lasting transformation is exceptionally rare.
During the eight years I was the primary caregiver for my wife, I seemed to ignore the passage of time, but now, as a widower, memories of better times haunt me. I have little faith in experiencing a new loving companionship, so memories will have to do.
Exploring ways to post my artwork online safely. I want to keep my copyrights. Songs were easy; images seem harder. I am comparing website providers and security measures.
