Bang! 101 (More) Songs About Nuclear War from the 1980s
@bangpodcast
Season 2 of our 80s music podcast is out! Having completed 21 episodes last year, we've only uncovered 101 songs... Some deeper cuts and some fabulous new guests. Wherever you get your podcasts... bangnuclearpodcast@gmail.com
New Episode tomorrow, and we're damn pleased with it. Here are a couple of the tracks, plus we get to play a newly remastered Fay Ray deep cut... Who's in?
4 perfect albums... 5 glorious beermats.... Thanks, Ian @coldwarpod.bsky.social.
#HappyBirthday #RogerTaylor. Filmed by me. Bexhill 2021.
In our latest episode, we chatted to Ian of @coldwarpod.bsky.social. He is wonderfully knowledgeable and entertaining. He's also well-read, as you can see. @davenuclear.bsky.social and @pankp007.bsky.social have books, but they are on the other side of the room, honest!
Happy Live Aid anniversary. Did you know that Live Aid is now closer to the end of WW2 than to today?
What a star... What a voice. Rest in peace, Bonnie Tyler.
They were really, really fabulous. #DuranDuran
As discussed in our latest episode, this Style Council classic wasn't an obvious choice for our nuclear list... But the gubbins on the back of the sleeve and the video makes it clear.
I can't make any decisions this evening
Two of Britain's most cherished duos feature in next Monday's episode.... A fabulous hit and a curious B-side...
Hi-energy synth-disco. It's irresistible...
And what a show last night....
It was #Kraftwerk's late show at The Royal Albert Hall. The sound and visuals were beyond expectations... The music, as ever, trailblazing... And plenty for the Bang! faithful to enjoy... Ended after midnight.
Very sad to learn of the passing of Ian Hampton, Sparks bassist for 2 of their albums in almost perfect run during the 70s. Indiscreet is a complete joy. Ian is the dude sitting on the grass. RIP sir.
New episode next week! The 2nd of 2 parts about 80s punk nuclear tunes. Last week was the UK's input. Now it's over to the US. With v special guest/co-presenter @indashadoz.bsky.social. He knows his stuff. Engaging & hugely knowledgeable. You will become an expert. Here's a sample of his wares.
For lovers of acid-jazz, big band, French lounge, seaside brass and @cornershophq.bsky.social generally, it is the most perfect album. And England is a Garden. So listen outside.
We've been very blessed by the people we've met because of our humble pod. But to receive - each of us - a fab record The Vapors New Clear Day from our dear friend @johnlogsdon.bsky.social was a complete surprise and delight. Thank you John (and @indashadoz.bsky.social) Love, Dave and Pank
You may remember we covered 8th Day and mentioned the whole film... ? Nearly a year now I think.
Not often I pick up a record just on the sleeve, but as a lover of the train, I thought I'd get it. An offshoot of Captain Beefheart with Rabbit Bundrick. It's good. Anyone familiar?
Was gonna do some Threads sightseeing but there was a lot of snooker today....
V. excited for Ep 7 as we turn the focus on to albums. Paul Hardcastle made everyone sit up and listen in the 1980s but this is a whole 80s concept album about the horror of nuclear war. Released in 1987 he asks "will there be a world in 40 years?" And the melodies? Sublime. #NoWinners
Hey nuclear family! @pankp007.bsky.social and @davenuclear.bsky.social need your help. Who is this band? Dave found this 7 inch at a car boot sale. Never heard of them. Seems 80s. Odd production. Decent chorus. But label/sleeve offer no clues. Would love to track Frail Loop down...
So here I am in the Beatles Ashram in Rishikesh in the foothills of the Himalayas by the Ganga River. 60 years ago, George, John, Ringo & Paul came to live with the Maharishi. Though things ended sourly, a lot of magic emerged from these weeks... Can't believe I was here. Jai Guru Deva.
Look what my super podcast hero colleague Dave got me for my birthday.... Thanks @davenuclear.bsky.social
It was exactly 12 months ago today that we launched Season 1 Episode 1 of our humble pod... Welcome to the Red Skies. Featuring The Fixx, OMD, Alphaville, Hot Chocolate and Ultravox. 10,000 listens later, we have created a nuclear family and made some wonderful friends and a tea towel. Thank you.
Morning all... Not only was this one of Freddie's favourite (and influential) albums, but it was produced by Arif Mardin too...
Episode 3 of Season 2 is out on Monday. It's our pleasure to welcome Andy Oppenheimer to Bang! From the synth delights or Oppenheimer Analysis' New Mexico album, to learning and advising on all things that go Bang! Quite the story. Join us. @elonalternative.bsky.social will be...
