Today's #PrideMonth portrait is of EM Forster, author of 'A Room With A View', 'A Passage to India', 'Howards End' (no apostrophe) and 'Maurice' among others. Forster died on this very day in 1970, at the grand old age of 91. 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

Most famously, when Rogers’s character dies, Arlen kisses him tenderly on the mouth, a moment which - interpretations vary - has been hailed as cinema’s first gay kiss. The director, William A Wellman, went on to make A Star is Born (1937), Beau Geste (1939) and The High and the Mighty (1954).

Rogers and Arlen play a pair of WWI fighter pilots who are rivals for the love of the same girl, played by Clara Bow. 'Wings' is a cinematic milestone for a number of reasons, not least the fact that it was the first ever winner of the Best Picture Oscar at the newly inaugurated Academy Awards.

My #PrideMonth portrait for today is actually a double portrait of Charles Rogers and Richard Arlen, stars of the first male-male on-screen kiss in Hollywood history. The film is, of course, the silent classic Wings (1927). Read more in this thread. 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️
