You're taking the secondary fairway during ebb tide and then you hear the saxophones getting louder...
Sorry @vrtnws.be , I don't think an inland riverbarge is going to make it all the way to Thailand. www.vrt.be/vrtnws/nl/20...
5/x A vessel's movement is cut by up to 90 percent. Cranes keep working in conditions that would otherwise stop cargo ops, lines are far less likely to part, and swell-exposed berths stay usable. (Some 📷 shoretension.com)
4/x It is activated once, hydraulically, then runs stand-alone with no external power. The units are mobile, so they sit autonomously on the quay and are placed wherever they are needed.
3/x The core is a hydraulic system that stores and releases energy. When the ship surges, the unit pays out the line to absorb the peak load, then heaves it back in as the load eases. Constant tension, no shocks.
2/x It sits on the quay, anchored to a bollard. Its own line runs from the unit up to the ship. That line is held under constant tension, up to about 60 tonnes of force
1/x The orange unit you see here is a ShoreTension system. It is a dynamic mooring device that keeps a berthed ship still while wind, swell, and passing vessels push it around.
The Maritime Voice has obtained footage of the moments of the drone attack on the LDR Yaşar in the Black Sea. The incident, reported to have occurred in international waters last week, involved three drone attacks on the LDR Yaşar.
It's funny to see movies with like space age nav bridges on ships and people talking about AI .... this is the stuff we find on a lot of ships... It's like a Stranger Things episode.
MSC Silvana VIII has sunk deeper into the water off Zhoushan, China after running aground and failed salvage attempts (TT lelei8064)

For my colleague #maritimepilots or mariners. A little thing I wrote to calculate the wind force on your ship. Any comments and suggestions are welcome. And if you like it, buy me a beer (button in the app). ( I know you can afford it 😉) windcalc.pages.dev
12/x So when the SoH closed... the TD3C index and reality separated. Real cargo movements had largely gone elsewhere: loading at terminals outside the strait, or abandoning the Gulf altogether for West African and US Gulf oil.
7/x Who cares, you might say? Well, commodity traders to start with. That's why commodity trader Mercuria is suing the Baltic Exchange over losses it says were caused by oil tanker pricing data (TD3C) that failed to account for the effective closure of the SoH.
5/x TD3C is the Baltic Exchange's daily assessment for a VLCC lifting 270,000 tonnes from the Middle East Gulf to China: Ras Tanura to Ningbo, roughly two million barrels, around forty days round trip. It is the most widely referenced tanker price in the market.
4/x OK, now you're fully knowledgeable about TCE and WS. So What is TD3C? It's one of those TCE indices, and it represents a very important trade.
1/x So, A small 🧵about something that is happening in shipping and the war in Iran is (sort of) to blame... or is it the conservatism of the Baltic Exchange? I'm going to talk about TD3C (not from Star Wars) and a pending lawsuit with consequences.
Belgian shipowner Exmar has taken delivery of Arlon, its second dual-fuel ammonia mid-sized gas carrier, at the HD Hyundai Heavy Industries shipyard in South Korea on July 31st. Arlon has a carrying capacity of up to 46,000 cbm of ammonia or LPG.
Halfway through the swinging maneuver, my engine decided to fail. Instead of 10 stop/starts, I could only manage 2. So I had to choose strategically when to give a kick astern or ahead. Landed a bit heavy, but all good in the end.
W wind force 6 and flood tide... sliding through the pass with an empty bladder (what we call a ship in ballast)
