Bay Beer Reviews
@baybeerreviews
Beer! Drinking it, photographing it, reviewing it. Based in North Shields in the North East of England (Also doing non-beery stuff as @peteringout.bsky.social)
A Belgian brewed Tripel for Lidl, it's not going to be that bad is it? The aroma is bob on, with cheesey peaches and musty cellars. The taste is, well, it's a bit petrol-forward, which is not necessarily a bad thing. Overall, it's... Ok for the money! #BskyBeer
Was this West Coast DIPA worth dusting off my very old Beavertown glass for? Hell yes! Proper throwback stuff is going on here. It looks the part. It smells and tastes the part: sticky resinoid orangey apricot. Ok so it's not got THAT bitterness, but my time machine is broken 😂 #BskyBeer
Scotch Ale robustness from Broughton Brewery. Old Jock is a big malty bugger up front, but quickly develops a lemony cola licoricey dark fruitiness that reminds you that this style inspired the Belgian Dubbel. Frankly, this is superb! #BskyBeer
Calling this a 'Belgian Pale' doesn't do it full justice, it's much more than that! Alongside the spicy dryness of the Belgian yeast is a tropical hoppiness, a herbaceous citric zestiness, a decent level of bitterness, and a moreishly dry finish. Hats off to Wiper and True 🍻 #BskyBeer
From Dundee's 71 Brewing, via Lidl. A 'Hazy West Coast'? Ok, let's see. Crisply citric with a subtle herbalism, and finishing with a tongue-clicking dryness. I like! Definitely not a Westie in the textbook sense, more like a Hazy Pale for grownups 😁 #BskyBeer
Lidl's Franziskaner Weissbier knock-off. The style usually demands a little more toffee and banana than this is prepared to offer, but the finish is cleaner and crisper than your average hefeweizen, giving it a definite appeal in this warm weather. Certainly does a job. #BskyBeer
Dependable standby weizenism from the Franny fella. Caramelised banana dough balls with an uplifting spritz. #BskyBeer
Lipsmackingly quenchtastic: Cherry Sour from Flash House Brewing Co, at the source yesterday #NorthShields #BskyBeer
Yesterday at the inaugural @balticgateshead.bsky.social Beer Festival! A modest little affair, focusing on core beers and crowd pleasers from local breweries rather than one-offs or fancy stuff. Relaxed and respectful. One of those festivals where it's all about the vibe and the company 😊🍻
Bavarian biergarten bier, in a decidedly nippy North Shields beer garden. Some imagination required... #BskyBeer
Always good... Flash House Brewing's DDH Iron Giant, at the source #NorthShields #BskyBeer
Return of an old favourite... Good to see the quenchtastic Blueberry Sour back at Flash House Brewing #NorthShields. Perfect on a warm summer's evening on an industrial estate 🤗 #BskyBeer
(Below left, from last night...) One for West Coast IPA fans. Almasty's moreishly tasty 'Crystal 150' from the taps of Platform 2 #Tynemouth 😋. I've had this on keg and cask now: keg version wins. #BskyBeer
This Citra x Mandarina Pale Ale from Flash House Brewing Co in #NorthShields, fresh at the source, is - dare I say - sunshine in a glass ☀️🍻 #BskyBeer
Enjoyed some @burningskybeer.bsky.social Summertime on cask at the Brandling Villa last night. Nicely conditioned and highly quaffable. Recommended 🍻 #BskyBeer
Last night's pre-match preparation in some of the fine establishments of North Tyneside 🍻 #BskyBeer
Aperitivo time! Been in #Rome 🇮🇹 for 3 days now. Not a drop of beer has passed my lips. I can only apologise... #BskyBeer #BskyNotBeer
Banked pints of cask lager! FOMO for foam! Tasty withdrawals are being made from the Bank of Donzoko at the launch of 'Keller' at their taproom in #Newcastle 🍺🍺🍺 @donzokobeer.bsky.social #BskyBeer
A local stout for local people... 'Dark Side Of The Toon' from Three Kings, at the Seven Stars in #NorthShields #BskyBeer
Next up in the Seven Stars #NorthShields is Party Wave from Howling Hops. Citrus fruitism with a lightness of touch. Too light for me to be honest, it's a little thin. Perfectly drinkable though, with a nice dry finish #BskyBeer
This 'Aspin' pale from @blackjackbeers.bsky.social, on tap at the Seven Stars in #NorthShields, is really singing. Crisp and dry, with a hopped-up fruity tang #BskyBeer
Another winner from the consistently excellent Two By Two: 'Leapfrog' pale ale at Enigma Tap in #NorthShields #BskyBeer
It's always sunny in #NorthShields... This al fresco 'Pine' from Polly's Brew Co, on keg at Enigma Tap, is a pleasing pale ale with a crisp hop bite #BskyBeer
This Pentrich 'Ether Elemental' IPA, from the taps of Aperture Alehouse in #NorthShields is not just a good looker, it's also tasting glorious! #BskyBeer
A pint of Bass in its natural habitat in the Low Lights #NorthShields #BskyBeer
Concluding at Flash House with the smooth roasty coffeeness of their Shy Bairns Get Stout 😋 #BskyBeer
