Congratulations to Dr. Harrison Omondi, who defended his PhD thesis earlier this Spring & received his doctorate last week at the @sfu-fhs.bsky.social convocation! His thesis focused on increasing representation for diverse populations in HIV persistence research, as we work towards a cure.

The distinction of our final presentation of the day falls to Dr. Zabrina Brumme who provided a thorough overview on HIV cure research including recent updates from new cure strategies such as the FRESH, RIO and ‘Kitchen Sink’ Trials. #BCCfEUpdate

Dr. Viviane Dias Lima and Kevin Fung expanded on Dr. Leung’s presentation exploring the modelling and business case for expanding access to the herpes zoster vaccine for PWH in BC. #BCCfEUpdate

Opening up the final session, Dr. Victor Leung explored off-target effects and side benefits to some common vaccines (like Shingles or HPV), and why these benefits are amplified in PWH and deserve further attention. #BCCfEUpdate

Joined by PAN in BC's Jennifer Evin Jones, HIM's Dylan Wall and Qmunity's Anoop Gill, the second panel of the day highlighted the strengths of community and numerous impacts they have on service delivery for people living with and impacted by HIV. #BCCfEUpdate

As part of her evaluation on PrEP uptake across BC, Rosie Murphy also highlighted the key changes and rationale behind the recently updated provincial PrEP guidelines which can be found at bccfe.ca/bccfe-docume.... #BCCfEUpdate

Raquel Espinoza provided insights into prescribing trends & regimen switching among clients of the DTP’s HIV Treatment Program illustrating how trends in uptake and rationale for regimen-switching have changed over time as antiretroviral therapies have evolved. #BCCfEUpdate

Rounding out this session, Rosie Murphy and Raquel Espinoza shared an overview on the current state of BC’s HIV treatment and PrEP uptake from the BC-CfE Drug Treatment Programs. #BCCfEUpdate

Health Economist Kevin Fung followed with an economic analysis for longer-acting PrEP, modelling a number of scenarios to examine the program-level cost-effectiveness case for long-acting PrEP options. #BCCfEUpdate

Opening our first session, Dr. Mark Hull provided a comprehensive look at new and investigational agents for #HIV treatment and prevention, which included the latest data and considerations for longer-acting ART and PrEP medications. #BCCfEUpdate

Joining us remotely from Ottawa, the Honourable Dr. Hedy Fry, MP for Vancouver Centre, shared an important message for policy-makers to listen to the science & ensure the implementation of cost-effective strategies like #TasP to demonstrate health leadership. #BCCfEUpdate
