Visited The Nook for a "juicy nookie". We had fun at the downstairs bar, which stayed remarkably empty despite the line of people waiting for tables. The burger was good but not life-changing. Coleslaw was great. It was interesting to try walleye.
In St Paul our first stop (after checking in) was the Hmong Village. We had stuffed chicken wings, pork skewers, fried pork belly, and Hmong sausage along with purple rice.
Had a Leaf cigar for the first time this weekend at Mona cigar lounge in Glen Allen. No one told me you were supposed to take off the outer leaf layer! Oh well, I still smoked it, and just ordered a sampler of them to try them properly.
Took us about half an hour for the line but we finally got to try ZZQ in Richmond. Excellent. My Tres Hombres sandwich had brisket (the best I've had), pulled pork, and sausage. Nam got habanero fontina sausage and pork ribs. Sides were jalapeno Mac and cheese plus frijoles de charro with cornbread.
Went to Cookout for the first time today. We really liked it! Great burgers and my Oreo shake. Very good everything else - hush puppies, onion rings, chicken nuggets, and walking taco.

Tomorrow is my 50th birthday. We went to SHIA, a restaurant that I really enjoyed last year, for dinner. Not only was it another fantastic meal but I got to meet Chef Edward Lee! I don't fanboy often but totally did tonight.
Keeping up with our fun with doing taste tests, today we compare Fanta Flora Double Hop Beard and Triple Hop Beard (thanks @arlbrew.bsky.social ). YE GODS THE TRIPLE IS 10%. That's really the big difference - that hit in ABV.
Hit Annandale today to try the mul naengmyeon at Yes, Buckwheat! in the K Market food court. It was fine, very refreshing, though the thin noodles got stuck in my teeth. I actually preferred Nam's bibim naengmyeon.
We visited the new Pho Thin in Fairfax today and liked it a lot! It's Hanoi style pho so it has a lighter broth and different noodles. We both got the wok seared beef which had a LOT of garlic but my P1 combo also had great meatballs (plus other cuts).
As per tradition, we watched the Armed Forces Cycling Classic from the sidewalk at Smokecraft (who evidently didn't know it was today). It's fun to pair the race with brunch and drinks. The new AYCE options are solid!
Visited the new BHC in Ballston - I'd been to the Myeongdong one twice while visiting Seoul and liked it a lot. We got classic fried wings and bburinkle (cheese powder) tenders. Hot, juicy, DELICIOUS! And the tenders were HUGE. We also tried the sweet and spicy and the red king sauces.
I used to make an omelette every Sunday for me and my girlfriend but we've gotten out of the habit. Happy to see my skills are still there! This one was made with two double yolk eggs and one regular and filled with Australian wagyu (leftover from Bourbon Steak), onions, and American cheese.
For our anniversary on Monday we went out to Nue, an "elegant" Vietnamese restaurant in Falls Church. It definitely felt elegant, and while expensive, the food was all worth it. I really loved the pho pate.
We're having friends over for lasagna tonight so my afternoon is making red sauce.
32 years after I first entered the University of Virginia, I have just completed my capstone project and will walk the Lawn in May. To celebrate, I am smoking my last MUWAT 7X70 with a glass of Virginia Distillery cigar blend whiskey.
First visit to Celebrity Delly and I was blown away by their OG cheesesteak and onion rings. Parking lot was a disaster zone but we'll be back.
Honestly, I bought this probably 75% because @catoctincreek.bsky.social was involved, but the other 25% is my Virginia homer tendencies.
A Hog Heaven breakfast sandwich hit the spot this morning. Glad to see the Arlington farmer's market expanded, though we only saw a couple of new booths (and at least one usual vendor missing). I love living here.
