The growing problem of Islamophobia hit home to Usman Khawaja a couple of years ago when his mother was verbally abused while she was watching her son play in a Test match in Melbourne.

Wearing a traditional hijab, Fauzia copped abuse from two Australian fans at the 2024 Boxing Day Test match against India at the MCG.

"She had a couple of guys come up to her and start yelling into her ear and she was pretty shocked by the experience," Khawaja said.

"I was playing so I didn't find out until later in the day.

These "interested third-party" groups can fuck off all the way into the sun. A 10-year policy with no formal complaints at a private institution...and they insert their bigoted noses into it so they can mess with trans people more.

The OCR investigation was prompted by a 2025 complaint against Smith by the conservative advocacy group Defending Education. The group did not reference any complaints from the Smith community, calling itself “an interested third-party organization.”

Forgot to mention that I really enjoyed this book! And weirdly enough, just a couple of days after I finished it, someone in r/horrorlit was asking for recommendations & specifically mentioned their love of old folklore and the Nuckelavee in particular. I thought, "Have I got the book for you!"

The Eddie Dileen maths ain't mathing. $20k deposit after barely a couple of years min wage employment. Under 20yo. Housing Commission single mum. Banks willing to give $140k post-GFC (2010!). There's a piece of this puzzle missing that is suggesting other family support. Could be wrong... 🤷‍♂️

Let’s talk about your first property. What did you buy and where was it?

Eddie Dilleen: It basically came down to affordability when it comes down to my first property. I purchased a two-bedroom unit on the Central Coast. That was about 10 minutes away from Wyong, in a suburb called Tuggerawong. Purchase price on that one – that was end of 2010, 2011, so settled in January 2011 – picked it up for $138,000.

You had a $20,000 deposit. How did you raise that?

Eddie Dilleen: Basically I worked in McDonald’s. When I was doing my HSC, I had probably the worst grades in all the school. I worked in McDonald’s after school for about a year, year and a half, and then once I turned 18, I got a full-time job. I was still on a very, very small income. At the time, I think the base salary was about $26,000 a year income, when I was 18.

So I basically went to a few different banks, and I went with one and they were like, ‘Yep you can borrow around $140,000’ and I was like ‘Alright, this limits me a bit’.
