Our colleague Peshtiwan Al-Dawoudi joined a high-level roundtable on climate security and displacement in #Iraq, sharing local perspectives on the links between #ClimateChange and conflict and contributing to discussions on resilience and evidence-informed policy responses.
From village dialogues to neighbourhood initiatives, communities in Jowhar are taking the lead in building a more peaceful and resilient future.
Continuing the momentum, another committee is preparing to launch self-led neighbourhood dialogues, engaging residents and identifying locations for future environmental #peacebuilding.
One committee brought together more than 100 participants from five villages, including women and youth leaders, to discuss intervillage peace, resource sharing and identify solutions together.
Through our #NexusPartnership with @iom.int, we are bringing #ConflictTransformation tools directly to communities and creating inclusive spaces for dialogue and action.
“To me, peace means that women can safely run their businesses and travel without fear.” This powerful reflection emerged during a “peace visioning” exercise in our recent Sustained Dialogue sessions in Jowhar, #Somalia.
They touched on our #PeaceEducation initiatives in schools in #BadenWürttemberg, as well as our dialogue and mediation processes in #Iraq. The exchange underscored that despite increasing challenges, active peacebuilding remains both necessary and possible.
How can we keep spaces for #peacebuilding open in times of growing militarisation? At an event organised by Pax Christi Kirchheim and the Kirchheim Peace Initiative in Baden-Württemberg, our colleagues Miriam Kaiser and Nike Löble reflected on this question through examples from our work.
Climate-related security risks are governance risks. Building resilience means connecting climate adaptation, humanitarian action & #peacebuilding. As #Germany updates its National Security Strategy, there is an opportunity to place climate, peace & security at the heart of its response to conflict.
