You shouldn’t have to own a roof or afford your own solar installation to benefit from cheaper and local renewables. 👏 to @clientearth.bsky.social for filing a complaint with the European Commission asking why 🇭🇺 & 🇵🇱 have unclear & complex for energy communities. www.clientearth.org/our-work/cle...
Big win for people & climate in 🇹🇷, where a court has stopped the expansion of the Afşin-Elbistan coal plant. 💪 97% of proposed coal projects have been cancelled since 2015. But Türkiye is still a #COP31 host planning one more unit, so the work is far from over. www.euronews.com/2026/07/14/v...
🚨BREAKING: Germany has found a new way to make power even more expensive. The revised #StromVKG law would set Europe's highest bid cap for new gas plants, potentially adding €4bn to household electricity bills by 2031. German households deserve cheaper, cleaner electricity...not another gas subsidy.
The EU’s leaked Electrification Action Plan is a step forward, but not if it's powered on fossil gas. We need more renewables, clean flexibility, grid reform and binding safeguards for soaring data centre demand. Otherwise, the transition risks hitting a wall. beyondfossilfuels.org/2026/06/02/g...
It's still really hot, and we still haven't addressed the root cause. Subsidies in the form of capacity markets have awarded €14bn to fossil fuel companies since last year just in 5 European countries. We have some ideas on how to use public money instead. beyondfossilfuels.org/2026/06/23/e...
Steel giants ArcelorMittal, ThyssenKrupp & Voestalpine and chemicals giant BASF’s recent attacks on the #EUETS are direct calls for the EU to retreat on climate action... but new polling shows citizens across the political spectrum want to stay the course. beyondfossilfuels.org/2026/07/01/e...
People & businesses are ready to ditch fossil fuel—but there’s a catch. Long grid connection queues are keeping over €100B in clean energy projects across Europe. Listen to @taraconnolly.bsky.social dive deep on what Distribution System Operators can do better. xenetwork.org/ets/episodes...
Climate leadership and new coal don’t mix. If 🇹🇷's #COP31 leadership and its proposal for a new imported coal-fired power plant sounds off, it’s because it is. We’re asking it to stop the project, cancel its coal plant and commit to a fair energy transition instead! www.greenpeace.org/turkey/basin...
We all feel the consequences of a warming planet. The #EUETS exists to reduce emissions from some of 🇪🇺’s biggest industrial polluters. 📊 New poll shows 72% of Europeans agree: the more a company emits, or fails to reduce its emissions, the more it should pay. beyondfossilfuels.org/2026/07/01/s...
Offshore wind's success shouldn't be measured by megawatts alone. That was the focus of our discussion at #LCAW, exploring how governments, industry, and communities can build projects that benefit people, nature, and local economies.
Italy's capacity market is under scrutiny. Approximately 81% of the €1.8bn collected from household energy bills since 2018 will go to fossil gas plants, meaning competition is skewed against clean tech like batteries. The EU needs to ensure fair competition! beyondfossilfuels.org/2026/06/23/e...
The 🇪🇺's battery fleet is projected to x4 by 2030, reducing the need for regular gas backup in the process, finds new @ember-energy.org analysis. And that's not all, increased battery capacity means storage is finally catching up with renewables deployment! ember-energy.org/latest-insig...
Should Irish households be paying the price data centres' insatiable appetite for electricity? Our study with @foeireland.bsky.social shows an average of €360 has been added to household electricity bills in recent years due to high data centre energy demand. www.independent.ie/county/cork/...
🤠 Europe's capacity markets need law & order. Since 2025, govts have awarded ≈€14bn in capacity market contracts to fossil fuel companies via energy bill levies. Weak oversight & rules favouring gas risk locking Europe into higher costs & fossil fuel dependence. beyondfossilfuels.org/2026/06/23/e...
Offshore wind isn't just about clean electricity. It's about jobs, stronger coastal communities, and making sure the benefits of the energy transition are shared fairly. Join us at #LCAW with @e3g.bsky.social to discuss lessons from Europe & emerging markets around the world. RSVP: luma.com/s5tbxvjh
Europe is self-sabotaging by expanding its fossil gas capacity. “The prioritisation of gas as a controllable power source is especially problematic because it draws investment and political focus away from making renewables more flexible,” writes Euronews. 👀 www.euronews.com/2026/06/19/g...
European businesses are ready to electrify. 90% of 🇫🇷 business leaders say clean electrification can reduce reliance on fossil fuel imports. 83% of 🇩🇪 business leaders expect lower energy bills. 84% of 🇵🇱 business leaders expect improved energy security. More via 👉 powering-up-business-poll.com
Big Tech is openly calling for more fossil gas to power Europe’s growing fleet of data centres. We can’t allow our energy security, climate goals, and economic future to be held hostage by the profit motives of tech billionaires and fossil fuel giants.
📊New global polling of 1,994 business leaders across 18 markets finds: ⚡ 91% expect electrification to improve their energy security. ⚡ 88% say electrification will make their business more competitive. But 72% say govt policy is moving too slowly on electrification. 📖 powering-up-business-poll.com
We’ve been under the influence of fossil gas for so long that many governments have started mistaking dependence for security. Ahead of #EUCO, it’s time to embrace a positive influence and get clean instead. Clean flex & renewables are here, they just need more investment & political will to scale.
Take 🇩🇪, 🇵🇱 & 🇷🇴: they prop gas up with different systems, but they’re all headed the same direction. Lobbying, fossil gas subsidies & policy choices that favour gas plants over clean alternatives only maximise profits off the back of weakening energy security & increasing household electricity bills.
We talk a lot about fossil gas lock-in, and that’s because we keep seeing the same mechanisms getting countries hooked on gas all over the continent, delaying the transition and weakening energy security in the process. How did we get here? Where is it happening?
Europe says it’s planning for energy security, but the fossil gas industry wants to build nearly 60GW of new gas plants potentially leaving 46M households exposed to future gas shocks. Where has this come from? And under whose influence? Governments? Gas companies? Our thread breaks it down 🧵
Europe can't build security or competitiveness on imported fossil fuels. Ahead of the European Council on 18-19 June next week, we're calling on 🇪🇺 leaders to make this our last fossil fuel crisis by investing in renewables, electrification, & modernised grids. beyondfossilfuels.org/2026/06/11/e...
Hamm, Germany = Hosted the largest protest against a single gas power plant in Europe. New gas is not the right choice for Germany’s energy security, climate protection, or affordability crisis. beyondfossilfuels.org/2026/06/09/g...
Would you prefer cheaper bills due to more renewable energy in the grid, or are you lying? 👇Sign up to our webinar on 9 June to find out how distribution grid queues are becoming blockers to the transition, as well as solutions to reduce the backlog. us06web.zoom.us/webinar/regi...
More than €100 billion of renewables are stuck in Europe’s outdated energy grid, as communities across the continent wait years for solar panels and heat pumps. Connection queues are “stalling” Europe's energy transition and "weakening" competitiveness. 👉 www.euronews.com/2026/06/02/a...
The EU’s new tech sovereignty package ignores a critical question: will Europeans have to pay for AI’s energy demand? We found that data centre expansion cost the Irish economy €715 million from 2015-2023. We need safeguards, not a carte blanche for Big Tech. beyondfossilfuels.org/2025/10/27/e...
The conflicts around Ukraine & Iran show the cost of fossil fuel dependence, for economies, security & the climate. As the world prepares for #COP31, host Türkiye can show leadership by announcing a just coal phaseout timetable and accelerating the shift to renewables. iklimagi.org/en/wars-and-...
