I have made it to Tucson!! 🌵🏜️ My mom and I have both concluded that the best part of flying east to west in the US with connections is the opportunity for second breakfast. I had a breakfast sandwich in Indy and ramen in Denver; she’s had double breakfast sandwich!

A banner day: returning all the books I’ve hoarded, a few probably since 2020, back to the library before the move. About 90 books, and I’ve already returned 15. Thank goodness for friends with cars!!! #PhDLife #BookHistory

Green tells him.

“First you sleep four hours on your right side.”

We see Blue sleeping peacefully with a wide awake Green next to him in bed.

“And then you turn around and sleep the next four hours on your left.”

At that point, the wide awake Green asks himself, “2 AM already?”

Back on the walk, Blue comments,

“Meanwhile you sleep like a sock in a blender.”

Green agrees, “I need to spin myself to sleep.”

They’ve got a wheel that I 100% do not need (my travel wheel is in IN and my fancy wheel is in VA), but I 1000% covet this. I couldn’t find a maker label on it, so I’m wondering if a local person made it

A very beautiful somewhat compact spinning wheel. Double treadles in front (two pedals), and the drive wheel running perpendicular to your feet behind. Crafted in several different colors of wood, with a natural finish. It feels like it could be Majacraft, but there was no label

This is also a fun area of the inventory because of the variety of information in the entries. Not a particularly standardized description for a bookseller! #BookHistory

Behold, my 600 tiny triangles have become 150 slightly larger triangles! Next step, glue fabric to even more tiny triangles and sew them together! 😅 #quiltsky #DHmakes

A few of the 1” triangles pieced into 2” ones have been pieced with 2” triangles (not pieced) and a 4” triangle to make an 8” triangle which is the eventual goal for them all. Every year I make do a tea party for a friend’s birthday, and I think I did quite well this year. Cucumber, smoked salmon and cucumber, coronation chicken, and egg salad sandwiches, blueberry scones, zuccini bread, and a strawberry roll cake!

I’ve realized that I’ve become the person they write math problems about: “If Alex has 1200 1-inch 🔺, 900 2-inch 🔺, and 100 4-inch 🔺, how big of a quilt can she make?” But I’ve got 600/1200 1-inch triangles glue basted, and 272 sewn into 2-inch triangles. Progress! #DHmakes

I've also started basting and sewing pieces for my foundation/English paper piecing quilt. The idea is random 1", 2", and 4" EPP triangles in my various blue/ocean-y fabrics surrounded by a foundation paper pieced border. There are *many* tiny triangles to be glue basted

Two completed 4" triangles composed of 1, 2-inch triangle in the center and then three other 2-inch triangles themselves composed of 4, 1-inch triangles. Various fabrics in blues, green, teals, and neutrals in solids and patterns are present, sometimes with metallic accents.

Sunday academic/crafting update: I finished another dissertation chapter! Yay! I also basted the little cactus bloom quilt to its batting and backing, and have completed stitch-in-the-ditch lines and some rulerwork. I'm really pleased with its poofiness from wool batting on top of cotton batting

I finished the quilt top from a class at the quilt show last week to learn half-triangle rectangles! The pattern is “Cactus Bloom” by Heather Kojan. Traditional piecing w/ big pieces feels like knitting w/ chunky yarn after having done only lace work for 3 years 😂 It comes together so fast!!!

Blue floral fabric and black floral fabric form a sort of spiky X, which is intersected by another X of abstractly streaky green fabric to form a shape like a cactus flower from above. The background is white and there is a border which reuses the blue floral fabric.

My other quilt didn’t win, but I’m still pleased to have had it in. There weren’t too many protest-type quilts, but they were there!
