Creator, writer, and fussy star of "Cheers and Jeers" at Daily Kos since 2003, a productive period during which I've used every letter of the alphabet except one.
"Pardon me, sir or madam, but have you any Neosporin? I seem to be suffering from an acute case of nipple itch."
Nutsferatu the vampire squirrel dropped by for brunch* at Billeh's Rooftop Nut Cafe, and stuck around to tell tales from when she and her furry followers defeated the feathered barbarian blue jay horde in 1567. Riveting stuff. * All you can eat almonds and walnuts just $4.95 plus tax.
We told Jenny that she could sit on the living room chair, but she had to play with her toys on the floor. So our 5-month-old little Miss Einstein figured out how to do both...
Teddy has been drumming her fingers all afternoon waiting for the official timing of our Friday edition of "Cheers and Jeers" over at Dailykos.com. So I told her we're posting at 7:15ET/4:15PT. Her drumming hasn't stopped. I think she's just taunting me now for sport. I feel duped.
Update on the little guy with sight/balance issues, and nubs for teeth: He still gets a mash of nuts & water, but his teeth are coming back so he can tackle whole nuts, which he eats standing straight and tall. Still loses his balance at times and tips over, but definitely improving. He says hi.
"Hey, filbert, wanna run for Senate? You'd fit right in with the other nutballs. Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha!!!" ---Henry
Jenny (the pup) and Teddy get caught up on the latest gossip. ...from a respectable distance.
For America's 250th birthday we put out the fine china for brunch at Billeh's Rooftop Nut Cafe. Also for America's 250th birthday we put out a bowl of free earplugs for later.
Gasp!!! Teddy is on pins and needles as I read to her our first-ever "Cheers and Jeers," posted on July 4th, 1776. We'll post it for your amazement this evening at 7:15ET over at dailykos.com. Please join us. Teddy will be wearing her finest chiffon tricorn hat.
To beat the heat, find a nice shady spot with a breeze. The more you knooooow... 💫
"Pffft. Heat wave, schmeat wave. I've got a comfy cold crypt waiting for me back at the castle..." ---Nutsferatu the vampire squirrel* * All the other porch roof regulars have checked in for nuts and cold water, and they're doing fine.
Teddy is finally ready to show off her summer coat. She shed a bunch of winter fur around her midsection and it looked pretty rough for several weeks. But now it's filling in and turning heads at the porch roof cafe...
We're still not sure if we adopted a pliable puppy or a furry pretzel...
Nutsferatu the vampire squirrel entertained the porch roof brunch customers today with free skulking lessons. She says the best way to refine your technique is to find a spooky castle with several winding staircases. Essential move: lots of wiggly-waggly claw hand action.
Almonds! Walnuts! Filberts! Fresh water! And a human who will gladly stash your ill-gotten booty in his offshore account! At Billeh's Rooftop Nut Cafe, your comfort is our #1 priority. All-you-can-eat brunch buffet served daily from 9 'til 2.
"Excellent---my plan is coming together perfectly. At 7:15ET/4:15PT, when you're reading Billeh's freshly-posted Friday edition of 'Cheers and Jeers' over at Dailykos.com, I'll sneak in and steal your nuts. The only snag is that I just said that out loud. Please un-hear that." ---Sneaky Teddy
"Hang in there, world. It's almost Friday!" ---Baby Jenny
Woke up this morning to find a large nest being built in the tree that towers over our garage. Despite the enormity of the task, the builder found a moment to moon the hairless biped observing from the window. I'm touched.
True fact: J.R.R. Tolkien's infamous villain Grima Wormtongue had a pet: Henry Almondtongue. Nasty bugger. Loved to go to The Shire and short-sheet the Hobbits' beds...
"You look like you've had a rough day, so I brung ya a walnut. I'll give it to you once I've completed my rigorous quality control test. So far its quality is very yummy."
It was mating day in our neck of the woods, and these two started off with some polite grooming before getting down to the sniffing and chasing. Billeh's Rooftop Nut Cafe: where customers come to enjoy our all-you-can-eat almond and walnut buffet, and sometimes a little more...
Not a daily customer at Billeh's Rooftop Nut Cafe, but he shows up every now and then. Happy li'l fella with lovely colors...
"Hi. Nutsferatu here. You know me from movies like 'Nest of Blood ' 'Den of Blood' and 'Drey of Blood.' But when I'm not on the set, I join Billeh for his Friday edition of 'Cheers and Jeers' at Dailykos.com. Post time is 7:15ET/4:15PT. It's a bloody good time, ha ha."
"Coming up on Eyewitness News: humans urged to hang in there, it's almost Friday. I'm Fantom---that story plus Tinkles with the weather and Buster in the sports tub, tonight at 11..."
Update on this little fella with sight and balance issues, and tiny nubs for teeth. I'm still feeding him a paste of crushed walnuts and water, but he's also doing better at nibbling on solid almond halves. For all his issues, he deserves major props for resilience (he's been visiting since winter).
