NJ Birding
@billpaquin
Recently bit by the birding bug💙. NJ born and bred with a smattering of Maine, NY and FL. Outdoors as therapy and a break from the madness
Some pics from the meadowlands. A great egret, Forster's terns and a muskrat. #birding #birdphotography
Lovely mallard couple with some dang good lighting #birding #birdphotography
Juvenile little blue heron (gray lores and lighter legs) feeding with a snowy egret. County lifer. #birding #birdphotography
Bridled tern on a truck. I imagine he sees the reflection in the window and thinks it him and his buddy hanging out having a glorious day among the land lovers. #birding #birdphotography
#pelagic #birding is something else. I can understand why some folks fall so hard for it. We had 5 species of shearwater on a recent trip off NJ coast scopoli's, great, Cory's pictured plus a Manx and sooty. Not to mention minke and fin whales! #birdphotography
Willet mania. I have been skipping these guys over the last few months as they are everywhere in coastal NJ now. But then I discovered the eastern and western subspecies and now I have my new obsession, finding western willets in NY/NJ #birding #birdphotography
A juvenile Forster's tern lounging in the mudflats of the Edwin Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge. A truly amazing location for #birding. I struggle with tern ID. Evidently the Bright white on the body and underwings with orange legs. On juveniles like this one the "Zorro" mask is a defining mark.
A stunningly beautiful curlew sandpiper has been frequenting Jones Beach in NYC. #birding #birdphotography
Unbelievably this guy got his dinner down. Ate a nice sized porgie I think. #birding #birdphotography
Nesting Osprey in Wells Harbor, Wells Maine. #birding #birdphotography.
Wilson's Storm Petrel dancing on the waves off of Boone Island Maine. #birding #birdphotography. It's like trying to take pictures of a tree swallow. Had my lifer this week only to have hundreds more when out on the water. They are seemingly everywhere once you get a little bit offshore.
A greater black backed gull stole my son's fish on a cast and got him self hooked. Had to reel him into the. Pat and unhook him. Thankfully got it out and he flew off. #birding #birdphotography
Wilson's storm petrel, razorbill, black guillemot and a sooty shearwater from Casco Bay on a puffin cruise and whale watch. #birding #birdphotography
My son and I went on Cap'N Fish's whale watch and puffin cruise in Boothbay Harbor, ME. No whales but lots of puffins and pelagic species. Fun time. #birding #birdphotography
Common eider and white winged scoter hanging off crescent beach in York county maine. #birding #birdphotography
The lighting was different but I think this was the same bird. Doesn't seem possible with the marbling on the right heron vs the lefts' #birding #birdphotography
Had an eagle fly into our marsh in Maine this morning. Apropos. #birding #birdphotography
Yellow crowned night heron with the afternoon snack #birding #birdphotography
Gull-billed tern and least tern at Forsythe NWR #birding #birdphotography
A potential white-faced ibis today at Forsythe NWR in NJ. I'm torn and listed it as a glossy ibis #birding #birdphotography would love thoughts on #birdid if you have an opinion.
Greater yellowlegs, eastern kingbird and common yellowthroat at Forsythe NWR #birding #birdphotography
Black neck stilt couple with chicks at Forsythe NWR this morning. #birding #birdphotography
Humpback tail slap with a brave Heermann's gull enjoying the spray a little too close for comfort. #birding #birdphotography #whales
Hatchling and juvenile western gulls from San Francisco Bay. #birding #birdphotography
A nesting western gull in the pilings of Pier 39 in downtown San Francisco. Her partner was working the crowd. #birding #birdphotography
I had a few hours to kill before a client meeting and did a hike in the mountains of Santa Clara county, CA. Becoming a birder has a lot of gifts, experiencing new parts of the US is one of them. A western flycatcher hiding along the trail. #birding #birdphotography
Breaching humpback whale just outside the Golden Gate Bridge with a couple of opportunistic western gulls #birding #birdphotography
