Had a blast at GenCon. Played a ton of games - standouts were the new-to-me The Breach and Wanderhome. Ran a couple of Blue Planet sessions - both groups were outstanding. The special backer’s game was a new con scenario I’m calling Down on the Farm, and they rocked it. 1/2
It’s my birthday today. The big six-oh. Not really a celebrator, so just spent the day with my three loves - my wife, my cat and gaming. Playing LA-1, a theme-forward story game in the vein of Arkham Horror. Targets one if my favorite genres - cyber-noir. First play, but already digging it!

Finally got an afternoon to myself and the chance to try and learn this very cool, but very rules-dense game. Now, if only I can find someone who’s actually willing to play it with me…
For the past 25 years, my oldest friends and I meet at a house in the woods for 4 days of RPGs. This year I’m running Mutant: Year Zero. If it goes to plan it may end with a PvP session of the associated MY0: Zone Wars miniatures game. Played a practice game this morning to pin down the rules.
For as long as it’s been a genre, science fiction has served as a mirror for seeing ourselves with new eyes. It's been a medium for expressing hope and challenging ourselves to do better. Anyone who has read any of the editions of Blue Planet knows that we have tried to uphold that tradition. 1/3
My friend Joe must have every indie game ever published, and he is on a quest to have us play them all. This is kind of Nausicaa meets UVG, and it’s pretty awesome.
Hadn't planned on running any official events at GenCon 2026, as I really enjoyed being responsibility free last year. But, feeling some hype, I decided to jump in. Just signed up to GM an Upwind session Thursday and a Blue Planet game on Friday. See you there!
I realize it sounds unlikely, but I didn’t realize until after the original Blue Planet was published it was basically just an aquatic Dune. Makes sense I guess, because Dune is my favorite sci-fi story. Makes sense then too that Dune: War for Arrakis is rapidly becoming my favorite board game.
An afternoon of ISS Vanguard with my wife. I love the intention of this game, but sometimes it can just be grueling.

The thing I love most about GenCon is that for four whole days I get to unabashedly be my whole self while surrounded by so many instant friends. There’s nothing else like it.
Wife and I spend every summer (teachers) living on our Westsail in the San Juan and Gulf Islands. In fact, at anchor as I post. Will likely retire to the boat, at least for a couple years.
