We would like to introduce you to our fourth recipient of the 2026 BFF Community Garden Fund, Chris Hubeon & Beal Neal Community Garden in Bellport, NY! The garden was established in 2010 by community members wanting access to fresh produce in their food desert neighborhood.

Meet food system strategist and storyteller, Adjoa Kittoe. Since 2024, she is ⅓ responsible for deploying over $600k in emergency funding to 50 agricultural and food businesses in the Northeast as a BFF Rapid Response Fund (RRF) Committee member.

Big news! The 2026 BFF Community Garden Fund awarded $500 each to 31 Black-led gardens in the Northeast! 1st recipient: 400 Montauk Community Garden in East NY. With the gift, they can expand their medicinal herb garden and workshops!

We're so excited to be back at the 2026 Sustainable Agriculture Food Systems Funders (SAFSF) Forum in Savannah, Georgia! With "Ancestral Futures" as the year's theme, the forum invited attendees to recover wisdom that has been marginalized or erased, and to apply it to the challenges of our world.

We are thankful to have been invited to participate in the Future of Food is Medicine Roundtable at the New York Fed. This fruitful panel and event brought together stakeholders from academia, policy, philanthropy, and finance.

Last month, we participated in the 2026 Sun Valley Forum in Idaho. BFF President, Olivia Watkins joined Pandora Thomas of Earthseed Farm, to discuss reclamation of Afro-indigenous ecological practices. Huge thanks to @sunvalleyforum.bsky.social and Earthseed farm team for this great experience.

Our team recently convened in uptown NYC for our 2nd quarter staff meetup! We discussed project management and tech trends at our Operations workshop. Later, we connected over East African cuisine at Massawa and viewed Black art at the Studio Museum.

BFF President, Olivia Watkins, had the opportunity to speak at Regenerative NYC’26, last month. The global event gathers the agricultural, investment, research, tech, supply chain industries to connect and build the future of regenerative food systems.

Recently, our team and fellow food system actors got down and dirty at La Finca Cooperative! We assisted the Maine-based farm with brush clearing, field prep, and animal chores!

On April 2, we held our first Community workday at Black Yard Farm in Argyle, NY. We supported farmer Ashanti Williams with prepping beds and transplanting seedlings for the growing season.

On April 24th, we held an intimate luncheon with the Glynwood Center for Regional Food and Farming to build support for BFF Fund 2.0. Guests enjoyed a menu sourced by Black farmers and food businesses while hearing unique insights from the food producers we serve.

We had a blast being in fellowship with agriculturalists and food system leaders at BLACC in Ithaca, NY. Plenty thanks to BFU-NYS for inviting us to participate at this uplifting event.

We recently On April 7, we participated in the Homeward Capital: A Buen Vivir Convening on Diaspora, Dignity, and Investment event in Washington DC. The event gathered global development leaders, donors, and impact investors to reimagine how capital flows across borders and communities.

We recently went to the 2026 NBFJA Annual Member Gathering in New Orleans, LA. This year’s theme "Joy in Alignment” convened Black food leaders to fellowship, reflect, and strategize in pursuit of Black food sovereignty, land stewardship, and self-determined economies.

Shout out to BFF Investee, Nourrir who brought the flavor of West Africa to Brooklyn at the PUMA Kit Reveal. PUMA unveiled soccer team kits for 11 nations, each with a custom designed truck filled with cultural treats. Nourrir's sparkling drinks represented Cote D’Ivoire, Senegal, and Ghana! ⚽️
