Black Forest Cyclist
@blackforestcyclist
Berliner in exile near Freiburg. Foodie, NYT addict, and Packers fan. Enjoys riding his mountain bike in the Black Forest.
Oh, BTW, just let me know in case you'd like to borrow my well-worn paperback copy.
Last summer, my daughter spent two weeks in Brighton. She attended one of the many summer language schools that keep the UK's economy afloat. Since that time, she holds the inexplicable belief that baked beans and toast constitute a proper breakfast. Do not let this happen to your family.
Knowing you, you probably bought your substandard Brezel at the Freiburg branch of a national bakery chain just because they promised you a free Disney toy with every purchase. Paradise? Are you sure? Eden is managed by these guys? If I were you, I'd re-check my location.
Ladies and gentlemen of the US, please meet your ambassador to France, the always affable Charles Kushner (full article in post below):
As always, this was the best decision of the day: a 90-min ride up the foothills of the Black Forest. Around 20:30 CEST, the temperature had dropped enough from today's high of 36 C, so it wasn't as exhausting anymore.
I encountered an unexpected traffic jam in Glottertal on Sunday afternoon.
Freiburg is too small, a bit bland, and its inhabitants are strangely affable. However, I'm willing to forgive all this and more due to the amazingly fresh Baden berries you can get pretty much everywhere around this time of year
Süddeutsche Zeitung made the same mistake a few years ago. I watched too many episodes of 'LA Law' during the original run to forget California's nickname.
They remind me of the Shriners' parade units. (Their philantrophic arm, Shriners Children's, is an excellent organisation providing specialised paediatric care.)
Interestingly, that type of product still sells well in Switzerland. Cailler's Rayon features bubbles and honey nougat pieces.
If you enjoy a good brawl in the Senate, the confirmation hearing of Todd Blanche will be a no-holds-barred interrogation. Trump recently antagonised several Republican senators, so things could get more interesting as usual when the votes are cast. Let's hope this nomination goes down in flames.
I have to admit that TK-Pizza is a weakness of mine. It is my firm conviction that Gustavo Gusto is the gold standard in this important and underestimated food category. Every once in a while, they have specially designed boxes. Their current one had me backing away from the freezer section.
It's a hill I'm willing to die on, but this would be a detailed discussion that's impractical to have on Bluesky. So let's agree to disagree.
I challenged myself for lunch a few days ago. I had oysters maybe once or twice about four decades ago. Oysters is what you get in every restaurant at Cap Ferret, so I had to revisit. Refreshing on a hot day, but I don't get the hype.
Why are there deep scratches all over your luggage? Maybe it fell off a moving cart at MLH/BSL.
Repost with the Russian agent who spies on your posts.
Were the Swiss colleagues who organised that trip called Gian and Giachen by any chance?
Just let me know if you need any help with zombies at your Winchester Tavern.
I see so many opportunities: loud music, video games, calling up a friend, cleaning the house, reading a book
What's the most shared article in the NYT at the moment? I'm glad you asked. I guess we're all thirsty for some true justice.
I find that on many days the NYT's obituaries are the most elucidating section of the paper. www.nytimes.com/2026/05/08/b... @risenc.bsky.social
Pretty much every guy in Germany who's 50 or a bit older knows this child actor. 'Alf' was must see TV for Teutones during the 80s. Unfortunately, Gregory had mental health problems and died about two years ago at the age of 46. From the NYT's obit:
We also put up a nesting box. No luck so far, despite the manufacturer promising many things.
I apologise, but the eternal sceptic in me has to ask: Is this by any chance the 'Italy' you're referring to?
You're so on, Lisa. Here's the bluest of blues from a state that has an actual Ministerpräsident and not an overrated food influencer.
