Only took me two months to get back to it *again* and start on reworking chapter 12 💪 which I'm not sure I'm in love with so far, but it's definitely better than what it used to be. At this rate, the fic will surely be pushing 400k by the time I've finished with rewrites.

Haven's war room was home to a fragrance that could generously be described as musty. Old stones stank, and old wood, too—like mildew and rot, all stuck and festering in places too high up to clean or too deep in the walls to carve out—and the aroma in the rest of the Chantry beyond hardly rated much better. Ages' worth of dust clung thickly to time-worn drapes and the rafters overhead; along the walls, dozens of beeswax candles, ever burning, guttered, filling the already stuffy air with the cloying, sick-sweet scent of honey and smoke. It was suffocating, so after hours spent hunched over maps while listening to her advisors bicker over scenarios she knew would never come to pass, Mira all but fled toward the exit the instant she was given leave to do so.

She hoped that she looked like she was in a hurry to get back to something important, convinced that if she set her jaw just so and kept her eyes locked on the towering doors at the end of the hall, anyone looking at her twice would be dissuaded from attempting to stop her to talk. It was never just to talk: couched between the petty gossip and endless complaints, there was always some arduous request to be made of her, some, "Herald, would you mind…" or, "Your Worship, if it's not too much trouble…" or, "If you please, my lady, the next time you find yourself out…"

Out. Out was where she wanted to be. Outside, where the air was fresh and clean, however bitingly cold. Where she could enjoy the last of the day's thin sunlight before the sky turned purple-dark behind the mountains and left Haven in shadow, dappled in pools of breech-glow green. Where she could find him again and spend her time on what mattered, and they could—

The ami on the left is 13" tall and is crocheted in a muted green with tan accents on the inner ear, belly, and nose. Its horns are a tawny brown. Behind its horns and around its neck are leaves in various shades of green. It has large eyes in a light, sparkling green.

The ami on the right is 15" tall and is crocheted in a light grey, bordering on silver, with dark grey for its belly, nose, inner ears, and horns, as well as a trio of small markings on its forehead. It has sparkly purple eyes, two shades of green leaves behind its horns and around its neck, and one small leaf just above the top marking on its forehead.

Behind him is the branch of a pine tree. Varric was worked up from my own personal base pattern with all details freehanded. He took about 75 hours of work to make, from start to finish.

The ami is 15 inches (38cm) tall and crocheted with acrylic yarn. His hair is brushed yarn that is latched and needle-felted into place (as well as tied up in the back into a short ponytail. His eyebrows and eyes are also needle felted, while his chest hair is embroidered. His tunic is red with silver embroidery. Around his neck is a silver necklace with a ring hanging from it, and his right ear has a hoop and a cuff, while his left ear has only a hoop (all jewelry crocheted). His trousers are grey, and his boots and gloves are dark brown, with lighter brown on the boot cuffs and down the front of the boots (and black soles at the bottom of the boots. His face is detailed using a few techniques and mediums, including soft sculpting, needle felting, chalk pastels, and fabric marker (for the stubble). Varric is stuffed VERY firmly with polyfil (so much polyfil) and his arms are wired so he can be (slightly) posed. He can stand on his own on flat, even surfaces (though in this image, he has support).

Alright, I think I've got it; take 3 is a winner! 😌 Decided to stick with the 12mm stainless steel studs after all, since I didn't feel like tackling trying to resize all the icons for printing. Much happier with the image after sharpening and changing to a glossy paper, too. Rainiearrings!

okay, this is take 2 on testing, and I'm mooostly happy with how they came out. Probably gonna go back down to a 10mm and see if I can crisp up the portraits a bit for the next round.
