I'm not sure if there's a more on brand night for me than watching Columbio on an I pad while assembling D&D Legos with a kindle resting nearby (and a too large cup of soda). You can't see the Star Trek t-shirt I'm wearing.
The air quality in my backyard is moving in the right direction! Too bad this smoke just appears for no reason.
Just yesterday I was singing the praises of Martha Grime's Richard Jury series, and today you can get the first one for $2. The universe is telling you something: it is an unfeeling place that doesn't care about your existence. I'm telling you that this book is good: amzn.to/4wLJl6w
I'm reading "Apple: The First 50 Years," and enjoying it. But man, all those stories about engineers working around the clock, missing Christmas, and seeing "fun facts" like this about execs…. Doesn't make me feel good.
I feel like my backyard weather station's thermometer needs to be calibrated. That being said it is flipping hot out there. But at least it isn't humid.
I'm not a fan of mowing the lawn, but it is nice to eat dinner on the patio and enjoy a lovely evening.
I like to imagine our recycling bin and our compost bin are best friends.
If you're Joe Abercrombie curious (he's often called a "grimdark" fantasy writer) then pick up The Devils for $3. It is lots of fun, a good intro to Abercrombie and a stand alone book (for the moment). amzn.to/4ciT5Mv
I continue to unpack my totally normal stuff. I mean, how can you resist?
Seeing all your possessions in a concentrated situation (like unpacking) really makes you realize how much Star Trek stuff you own. All praise to the Great Material Continuum.
If the Empire designed a vaporizer (other than the Dearh Star. Eh? See what I did there?) I think it would look just like this.
Jasper Fforde is one of those writers who you'll either love or bounce right off of. I love his work, and The Big Over Easy is his first nursery crime novel. If you cringed reading that sentence, save your $2. If you chuckled, this book might be for you! https://amzn.to/4pdLzrG
Just when you think there's nothing new in science fiction something like Ancillary Justice comes along and blows your mind. It is so, so good. Plus, if you're looking for a cozy read people drink a lot of tea in this book (this book is not a cozy read). https://amzn.to/48QGGxR $3!
Jade City by Fonda Lee is a lot of fun! There's magic and gangs and lots more for $3. https://amzn.to/4pDyck7 I must admit I'm not a fan of the new cover... but what do I know? The book is good!
Lots of people have praised The Fith Season by N.K. Jemisin and you know why? Because it is a brilliant book that kicks off a fantastic series. If you haven't read it just start now (and only $3). https://amzn.to/44Hk8Oq
Shroud isn't a fun book, but it is very good indeed. The best Tchaikovsky in a little bit (but really any Tchaikovsky is good!). A steal at $3. https://amzn.to/3K95FnH
I just finished reading "Guilty by Definition" by Susie Dent and I rather enjoyed it. Certainly worth $2 (I did read a review that complained about the amount of definitions in the book... but really what did they expect?). https://amzn.to/48K6HQe
Leviathan Wakes, the first book in the Expanse series, is fantastic. I have't finished the whole series because I get distracted, but this one is good. $3! https://amzn.to/49QOG3W
I wondered why the smoke detector in our rental was ever so softly beeping. Well, that'll do it (and it is connected to the house's electricity so it was working!).
What is this madness? At least it doesn't feel as miserable as it would in Philadelphia.
