It is disappointing to see this, yet it is maybe not a surprise from the author. Using Nazi-era racial terminology like "Mischling" to gatekeep Jewish identity and invalidate non-Orthodox Jews and Jews by choice, including their children, is abhorrent and deeply divisive.
It seems that I am not the only Black British Jewish person who has picked this issue up.
It is incredibly disappointing that: - @bbcnewsnight.bsky.social did not have a Black person, more specifically a Black woman, on this segment to discuss this - @boardofdeputies.bsky.social has not reached out to Black Jews to have this discussion, specifically after their Commission report *And*
Seeing Rita Ora’s headline today (“I looked for love in the wrong places”) hits a quiet, familiar chord. We’ve all spent time searching for connection or validation in places that were never meant to hold us. 1/3
White working-class boys face lower grades and higher exclusions. Yet, low-income white girls are now seeing the sharpest drops in GCSE attainment. Scrapping the Equality Act won’t fix this. It risks stripping away protections, making vulnerable girls even more invisible. 🧵 1/4

As a Black British Jew, I’m watching the "allyship audit" currently fracturing our communities. When solidarity is quid pro quo, we lose each other. I’ve written about why transactional allyship is a trap, and how we move from debt to common cause: medium.com/@blewisha... 🧵 1/5

Whilst Tourette's via coprolalia and bipolar disorder can result in expressing racist language, the mechanism for Tourette's is involuntary, unintentional tics. Dr Alvin Poussaint argues extreme racist delusions can occur as a major *symptom* in psychotic disorders. 3/8
This discussion about Ye, also presented by Narinder Kaur, is complex, contextual and requires care rather than comparison. It is fair to say that John Davidson and Ye are not comparable, yet the dynamics of how grace is extended to white and Black people seem different. There 1/8
These adverts should *not* be targeted to appear on my timeline. Yet, the X algorithm seems to disagree.
Anti-Jewish and anti-Muslim hate are both, not competing, symptoms of the same disease. They are both fuelled by the same fire.
It is fascinating how, when lessons are not learnt, history can repeat itself. This is from The Rest Is History's episode "Revolution in Iran: Rise of the Ayatollah."
Claiming to help, when it is not the driver, not only costs lives. Historical records frequently show that such interventions result in complex, often detrimental, outcomes in many ways. 8/8
Deuteronomy: Tzedek, tzedek tirdof or Justice, justice shall you pursue. Isaiah: Learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression; bring justice to the fatherless, plead the widow's cause. Leviticus: Do not stand idly by the blood of your neighbour. Talmud: silence is consent
"Psychodrama" is something different to it's recent use.
I do not think I could love Mark Alan Ruffalo any more for how he uses his voice and privilege.
This evening, Chabad said, "Get up, get out and let's still have latkes with ketchup."
With this context, the Telegraph's headline lends itself to being inflammatory by describing the reason for the arrest as specifically due to wearing a Star of David. The interview itself is something to reflect and respond to separately. The outcome of the review will be welcome.
I do not even have challah and pickles to eat as I watch non-Jews, non-Israelis and non-Palestinians argue it out.
To all journalists, please reflect on your reporting. The Chief Rabbi's title is Chief Rabbi of the United Hebrew Congregations of Great Britain and the Commonwealth, not the British or Britain's Chief Rabbi.
In 2015, @keithkahnharris.bsky.social wrote this piece. Now, in 2025, as we ruminate on what happened at the Manchester synagogue, there was never a truer set of words said.
