🌱The dahlias are blooming. Some are getting too big in clumps. Probably time to dig them up and separate them in fall. Is that what you do with your #dahlias ?

🌱 I’m hoping I’ll get more than one koginut squash here 🤞. Fruit will turn from green to bronze on the vine; apparently ready to pick when green is nearly gone. This is my second squash from row7.

🌱 Don’t put your finger in there!! Just kidding😊 This is a bronze calendula, the buds are more enchanting looking than the full blooms. Plant is not quite as sturdy as the yellow and orange calendulas.

🌱 The birdsfoot trefoil is carrying on; its been awhile since we got some rain here until today. it was so dry for weeks that the grass have all turned brown. but this plant persists and flower like there’s no tomorrow. Now we’re back to mid 50s and rain is forecast everyday for the next 10days.☔️

🌱 something with large tracks walked on all my new raised beds leaving large depressions. I did not take pics. It stepped on a couple of onions but did not eat anything. Could this have been the culprit? I’m glad it did not eat my plants 🤞.

🌱 The two perennial sweet peas are in bloom. The other one is white. Their blooms are in clusters, unlike the annuals. They don’t have any smell either unlike the annuals but they’re very pretty.

🌱 It’s the end of the season for the Danish flag poppies. They don’t last very long but they are absolutely delightful and striking to have in the garden. The bees are also crazy for them. Collecting some seeds for next season 🤞

🌱 I planted some fava beans as cover crop, these Lauren grape poppies decided to join. So i’m leaving them in until they all flower. I have already harvested the beans and chopped them down to 4in. We’ll see if they will grow a second crop.

🌱The poppies are almost done and have started seeding. Time to pull them out for local composting or they will take over the yard. I already missed them.

🌱 I’m happy to report that after a near missed encounter with a local hawk and days of being lost and endless calls, the lonesome quail visited the garden this morning with some companions. He found his tribe!

🌱 This is my first dahlia bloom this year. It was left in the ground this past winter. I may need to move it to a raised bed. Some of the tubers were damaged. Maybe more to do with amended clayish soil than need for thicker mulch?

🌱 My cilantro border is now flowering next to the budding lavender. These are the tallest Ive had them. I didn’t realize they could grow 3ft. The smell is amazing but I need to move them to a different location.

🌱 From a neighbor’s garden. I’ve never seen painted daisies this shade of brightness before.

🌱 The cardoons have become gigantic and preparing to bloom! This is the porto spineless variety. I planted them as a hedge but if I learn to blanch them apparently the stems are quite delicious.

🌱 One good thing about the hot weather — the sweet peas decided today is the time to pop! Im hoping to make them flower through fall so will cut the flowers soon to encourage more blooming.

🌱 Here is a solitary quail visiting the garden the last several days. We used to have a covey running around in the yard but we haven’t seen them in a while. Instead we have this one sitting on the lavender bush or the fence or hanging around making calls. As if saying, “anybody else here?” #birds

🌱 I planted a strip of corn poppies. Last year, there were not very much of them but this year, they’re quite spectacular. #FlowersOnFriday

🌱 The blue salvia is flowering with the ever reliable white bouquet tansy. This tansy can spread but has been manageable in the garden.

🌱It’s the most colorful time and the happiest time of the year in garden. The calendulas are the same shade as the California poppies. My super bloom in the garden once a year.

🌱The Danish flag poppies are blooming. I need to find a more sheltered place for them next year. Oh, the northwest wind is careless and brutal; could hear it howling all night long😱

🌱it’s supposed to rain today. Still waiting. Its been breezy and the cottonwood flowers are bad for my allergies. Here are some double pink poppies, all puffy and gorgeous! Some volunteers are growing near my lettuce!

🌱Hope you’re ready for the long weekend. The red corn poppies are now flowering. I wore matching red socks to celebrate!

🌱 The Egyptian walking onions are starting to show off. It’s such a weird plant, I loved it! Have now planted all the tomatoes in the ground. I had to get more eggs to complete my planting. Anyone else here crack raw egg in a hole before planting their tomatoes?

🌱 All the russian kale volunteers had bolted with the parent plant 😱. They shared an internal clock! It’s a good thing I started some new kale this year — redbor, scarlet, siberian, lacinato and thousandhead. Looking forward to a variety of new leaves to eat.

🌱 Im seeing a few ants in my fava beans thats flowering. Should I be worried? I hosed them down with water but they will likely be back.

🌱This is the enchanting Thunbergia Mysorensis also known as clock vine, I think. Not from my garden, photo taken in the tropics during a quick trip last year. I understand this grows in zones 10-11?
