Boulder Fields
@boulderfields
Edinburgh-based songwriter with deeply ingrained indie/americana sensibilities. Previous life as a screenwriter and animation producer but music has always been the thing. Writes occasionally for the wonderful Americana UK
The new Boulder Fields album will be released on the 27th of September. I may mention this again occasionally.
Yay! The Test Pressings for our new album arrived and they sound just like they should. I guess this means stepping out from the social media shadows and posting stuff more often. The album should be available in the autumn with a few tracks appearing before then. Details to follow. x
Travelled to the funeral for a lovely man I didn’t know very well but he’d battled with early onset Alzheimer’s for 10 years. Devastating stuff and a gorgeous family dealing with extended grief. Drove home via Cairn O’mount. I’d never driven that route before. Blizzard, lightning and stark beauty.
First band rehearsal since the new album sessions six months ago. Rusty? Oh yes. Fun? Oh yes.
Good morning! And here I am again in a happy place. #recording #mixing #music #studio
Saw the very wonderful Withered Hand playing at the Queen’s Hall in Edinburgh tonight. Absolutely marvellous in so many ways. ❤️
I’m not a fan of tribute bands, but I’ll make an exception for Michael Shannon and Jason Narducy playing REM. They were very good.
Heron having a nap in the tree, while doubtless keeping one eye on the stream for a possible bedtime snack. The bucolic joys of Stockbridge in middle of Edinburgh.
A first for me, I think. A ‘breakfast’ stout, ‘Broken Dream’ from Siren Craft Brewery. Hefty at 6.5 ABV but tasty AF.
This is, by a considerable distance, the prettiest space I’ve ever recorded music in. It’s just a lovely place to be working in. With an even lovelier producer at the desk. 🙂
And very delicious and uncharacteristically healthy studio lunch served too. Countryside recording rules.
Drums are surprisingly complicated things when you point mics at them. Mics are surprisingly complicated things when you point them at drums.
Officially we start tomorrow but getting the kit set up this evening so we can hit the ground running, and drumming, tomorrow.
I’m luckier than many. As long as I don’t do too much I’m okay-ish. If I cross the line I get a real crash and have to start building up again. Frankly, it’s boring AF. Happily, I can still walk as far as several local pubs and enjoy an occasional beer. Right now, it’s West Coast IPA from Pilot.
First night of our wee tour was fab. The Old Forge in Kettering is a superb little venue: great audience, lovely people and friends who travelled a fair old distance to come along. Much fun was had. Cheerfully onwards!
Highly recommend the Ashford Arms in Ashford in the Water for a pint too. Just a short walk to the Thornbridge Tap Room, tomorrow’s destination.
We’re playing at the wonderful Green Note in Camden on 21st of May. It would be most excellent if you could come along. @greennote.bsky.social
If you happen to be around #kettering this week, come along to the excellent Old Forge for some indie-folk/Americana in fab surroundings.
These lovely people recently added us to their festival and we’re really looking forward to playing there. Saved us from a mid-tour hiatus and that’s an excellent thing. The whole event looks fabulous so you should come along if you possibly can.
Wasn’t sure Aly was going to be able to make all these dates so he wasn’t on the original poster… BUT HE CAN! He’s my pal, so obviously this makes me very happy. The pic in this version is us doing our thing in a local record shop.
Good people of Kettering, Streatley, Reading, Bath and London (and the bad people too)… please come say hello.
Now with added hashtag because I’m a numpty (Scottish word but you’ll get the idea)… #BandcampFriday looms large and there are recording bills to pay for the new(ish) forthcoming EP. So it’s shameless self promotion o’clock. boulderfields.bandcamp.com/album/with-a...

Emergency pint of Pilot IPA. Got bitten by an overexcited two year old earlier today. Took about 20 minutes to wrangle an apology out of the wee bugger. Had to turn the radiator up to almost full before he cracked. All good. 🙂
