This is prophetic, in hindsight. The profile also notes that as Democrats focused on safer battlegrounds, the Republicans secured the South with Operation REDMAP, which gave birth to the Tea Party and generations of one-party rule in the South. /3
Post a perfect album from the 90s that isn't Nirvana, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam or Alice in Chains. (Option B, since Wrecking Ball was already taken.)
Someone left some Swiss chard and eggplant clippings on the little free library outside my apartment last week. So I grabbed them and repotted them in window planters. The chard seems to be responding well. (The gravel is to keep squirrels from digging in the soil.)
The sheer amount of swag at Rush’s Fifty Something shows at the United Center is overwhelming. Grabbed this poster commemorating the stand. It’s going in the den.
No photos/recording was allowed at Nick Offerman’s Ramova Theatre show last night. But he sang, played guitar & ukulele, joked, nicely handled a heckler & expressed his distaste for buggery. I had no idea what to expect when I bought tix, which was part of the allure. A wonderful show.
Last night was perfect weather for a fire, the new Jack White and Allison Russell albums and some New Glarus Fat Squirrel.
With these and Adidas’ other cycling shoe brand, Five Ten, cleats can be optional. I wear cleats because they’ve helped me dial in my pedal form and save my knees from wear and tear over the decades. I also like the recessed area in these shoes. Greatly reduces the clickity-clack.
I bought a pair of Adidias Velosamba shoes last year and fell so in live with them — fashionable *and* functional. So I bought a second pair.
It’s more than a couple of weeks late but Melissa Conyears-Ervin sent me a birthday card with an uncomfortably personal message from someone I’ve never met.
My friend @vouchey.bsky.social is hosting a pig roast this evening, so I made @ranchogordo.bsky.social spicy baked corona beans as a side. It’s a perfect day, weather-wise, to keep an oven firing at 385 degrees for five hours. www.ranchogordo.com/blogs/recipe...
I went to Motoblot yesterday at 35th/Halsted — an easy decision since I can walk there — and it appeared as if there were as many motorcycles as attendees. I left before I gave in to the temptation of buying a Royal Enright motorcycle.
There really is an old Trump social media post for every current situation. This one is especially on the nose.
HA! "Why would Trump betray Bibi? Maybe it's because he's a Gemini." I'm a Gemini. That's not it.
Anyone running for mayor of Chicago who can’t print campaign materials containing the city’s six-point star is a candidate who doesn’t deserve your vote. Looking at you, George Cardenas.
The Lanai on Lowe has seen better days. I think the tomato plants are battered but not destroyed. But that storm took the top two tiers from my pepper trellis.
The opening to Memphis wrestling’s TV show in the 1970s and 1980s featured the Uffuzi wrestlers sculpture on a slowly rotating pedestal, as “Also Sprach Zarathustra” played. It couldn’t get any gayer than that.
I’m heading to New Glarus for a weekend of biking. I’m not looking forward to the drive to get there.
