Rustbelt born, Florida raised. Manic Pixie Nightmare Cryptid. I paint unicorns and hoard cats.
Last weekend I had a table at a local Art in the Park art market, and one of my displays was Halloween-themed. I got a few “Halloween…already?” comments. YES. “Already.” Because it brings *me* joy! Joy that I require to function in this burgeoning dystopian hellscape, okay??!
I really do need to start posting more art & gardening & books here because otherwise this website is just Twitter-lite and even that is too much Twitter in my life at this point. So anyway…looooook at this gloriously fuzzy milkweed tussock moth caterpillar! 🐛 #bugs #chaosgardening #nativeplants
The ennui of another summer slowly slipping into autumn. Watching the daylight hours grow shorter, the flowers fading, and lightning bugs dwindling in the fading twilight.
I just did barn chores at a farm sanctuary this morning and I gotta say, I do not know if it is possible for goats to *not* do something annoying…
I have been having an exceptionally stressful week, and my coping mechanism is…getting lost in some horror. So I picked up ‘Wolf Worm’ by @tkingfisher.com and the zig this story unexpectedly zagged!
Just blocked this account. At least two of the most recent clips posted were very blatant and obvious AI fakes. So tired of having to weed out garbage this way.
Tonight I planted some more sunflowers, ran around looking at the fireflies, and ate a slice of berry pie with a scoop of ice cream.
In addition to baking a cake, I also made a tray of ambrosia salad. Because this is the mid-Atlantic, on a technicality, but culturally it’s more aligned with the Midwest.
Apfelkuchen in progress. A little fiddly because I’m using a disposable aluminum pan, so this was about two thirds of the way through the bake. I’ll top it with a dusting of powdered sugar before we head over to the in-laws later.
Closed out February reading Bury Your Gays by @chucktingle.bsky.social - which was fun but also horrifying and went some unexpected places. Quirky and fast-paced. The pop culture references were *chef’s kiss*. #booksky #horror #popculture #readingisfun
The Year of the (Fire) Horse. #yearofthehorse #firehorse #lunarnewyear #traditionalart
BOOKS books booooooks! I was sent into a (big-box) bookstore unsupervised this afternoon. I touched soooo many books and had a fun time picking out a few to add to my TBR stack. #booksky #books #readingisfundamental
I was asked in a job interview yesterday what my favorite book genres are. So I figure I’ll talk about that here, too! I read a lot of literary fiction, science fiction, and fantasy, as well as ecological nonfiction & general science and history. (The interview was at a local library. 😉)
I went out and had introverted artist social time at a regional org meetup, and talked a little bit about my current painting. Having peopled myself out, I’m home & curled up with a @tkingfisher.com story. My favorite line so far has been about the rarity of honest men and unicorns. 🦄 #booksky
Horses. I’ve been drawing horses (and unicorns) since I could hold a pencil. And also whimsical nonsense! Pretty much most of my creative work tends toward the cute, the silly, and the soft.
More art from the archives. For a little while I drew a lot of birds. #birdart #barnowl #drawing #natureart
Earlier today I was looking through old art files, and this is one of my favorite drawings from a number of years ago. #birdart #flamingo #natureart
When things out in the wider world are kind of…dire and disconcerting, sometimes the only thing to do is just log off and throw paint at something.
Instead of subjecting myself to what apparently was an unhinged diatribe, I read about how coyotes are the quintessential American species. And then I went outside and stared at the night sky for a little bit.
Yesterday afternoon my best friend and I visited a very small museum in Pittsburgh, to check out their Scandinavian art exhibit. I think my feed needs more beauty and less…whatever I keep using this website for. So, throughout the day I might post a thread about it.
48, no filter. The sunlight in a parked car is magically complimentary.
Pregaming the big holiday meal later by cooking up some leftover mashed potatoes into crispy tater cakes. Catching the parade highlights here I see I’m not missing much, as usual.
A screenshot I found in my phone’s camera roll from November 5th, 2023. So are we? Are we collectively better off, financially? Are we as a nation generally safe from being embroiled in wars, both foreign and of our own making?
“…what use had they for tricks and cunning, living in the enemy's warren and paying his price?” - Watership Down It is a book about rabbits, as Richard Adams asserts. But…it is very much a book not *just* about rabbits. 🐇 #watershipdown #booksky #art #wip #traditionalart #whiterabbit #LordFrith
New art?? Yes, new art. Rabbits, still, though. Need to clean this up a bit & apply a light berry-tea stain, then paint!
Made a new friend over the weekend. (You’ll have to click the image to see the whole thing. 💀)
