poet / little gamemaker / doctoral student "bibliomancer" when wearing my gamer pants
Future goals are to get even more of the character sheets digitized as well as integrate some of the really beautiful backdrops without making the final images too messy. I'd also love to get some kind of dialogue generator running (for example, this image that takes a line from Dumas's book).
however, playing this way will prevent you from seeing (and adding to) the excellent and slowly growing anthology of new cento poems on the itch page's comment thread bibliomancer.itch.io/centoquest
Been thinking about these guys all day and couldn't go to sleep without making this
ok actually after looking at this photo again maybe the movie still rules en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cheech_...
never in my life did I think I'd be working on a videogame phd project that called upon my teenage knowledge of the most terrible DVD I ever owned (and watched over 20 times...)
Strolled around the highly literary campus of St. John's College yesterday, very tickled by how the Shakespearean naming conventions of some buildings led to the text on this fire department connection sign
warming up my brain most mornings by incrementally fiddling with a little GB Studio driving game. I'm also trying out working with another person's asset pack for the first time, I really fell in love with piiixl's 1-bit designs: piiixl.itch.io
pretty obsessed with how @narrascope.org is located in an unused Dreamcast render (the UAlbany campus)
I've been wildly swamped with the Life/Work/School trio, but glad I put in some more time on the Decker toy theatre project. Learned quite a lot today and now have a fun little spotlight system to help indicate when you've picked your characters:
I really love how Adventure on the Atari uses the metaphor of reincarnation to ease people into the concept of a reset button
alright everyone, back on the canvas bus, make sure you bring everything you need and own because it's definitely safe this time [we paid for fresh wiper blade fluid]
why do i always feel the impulse to make the most unsettling egg-related screens possible when demoing flickgame for students
Later this summer - June 13th - I'm very excited to be talking through some of my thinking-and-practice-in-progress with bitsy games/citational poetics/messy hack attributions/etc etc at @narrascope.org
ok yeah i like this idea a lot actually, too bad i have -50 hours available to do it right now
(some of my favorite dudes that have not yet made it into the deck, but most certainly will)
oh fuck right off, the last thing I want is some "literary" AI grifter game sharing the same name as my itch handle
After plenty of bonking my head and overthinking Decker's syntax, we've finally got draggable characters in the Toy Theatre Imagination Kit! (it makes me want to stage some toy theatre JRPG battle scenes but that's gonna have to be a Fun Summer Gag when I Have The Time)
more academic conferences should be held within the ribcage of an eldritch behemoth, otherwise known as the Atlanta Marriott
We're finally getting to the point in the toy theatre kit where one might begin choosing which play they'd like to sample materials from. I'm starting with "Jack and the Giant Killer," a toy theatre set first printed around the 1850s!
repurposed PuzzleScript art slides in action, bouncing between @brkeogh.bsky.social's great paper on alternative game making tools, @lexaloffle.bsky.social PICO-8 gifs and a workshop with @increpare.bsky.social's recent FlickGame beta
working on slides for a guest workshop on little gamemaking tools and theming it around my PuzzleScript game Correspondence -- how materially anachronistic to be using Google Slides to reassemble art made in the PuzzleScript web engine, originally intended as homage to Win95, using my iMac...
spent the evening working out how players might choose various options for their toy theatre frames, based off the Pollock's Victoria Theatre set -- with tradeoffs between architectural splendor and, like, some actual space to move your actors around
finally these narrow slivers woods, advertised as "side wings to suit any play" -- a great precursor to reusable game assets
