Nice news. With Winnipeg’s downtown Keg moving, an arcade bar called Greta will be moving in. Their fourth location, joining ones in Toronto, Calgary, and Vancouver. gretabar.com/winnipeg/
After letting it sit empty and rot for 20 years, it’s good to see the Church of Scientology finally doing the bare minimum to keep Winnipeg’s beautiful Peck Building standing. They removed the cornice last year. The building is on the National Trust List of Canada's Endangered Places.
Disappointing to see the announcement of Giant Tiger closing in downtown Winnipeg. It was a good amenity for residents of the Exchange District.
Sad to see Winnipeg’s Downtown Keg Restaurant closed after 50 years in the old HBC Garage. Was my favourite restaurant in town. Will be reopening later this year in a generic space that’s closer to the arena but it will certainly lack the soul and ambiance of the old building.

Nice to see the Sherbrook bike lane being completed in Winnipeg. Since being installed in 2014, Sherbrook has blossomed as a neighbourhood high street, contrary to the misconception that bike lanes are bad for business.
A nice crowd lost in a 32,000 seat stadium. Winnipeg needs a nice 6-8,000 seat venue. CPL and NSL soccer would be successful with an intimate atmosphere. Upgrade the old University Stadium?

A wonderful neighbourhood high street (Davie) is a few blocks up the hill from the water. Runs parallel.
I love this mid-block old house in Vanvouver’s West End neighbourhood, transformed into a cafe. All cities should allow this on every residential street. Of course, it’s prohibited on almost every residential street everywhere.
My favourite tower in Vancouver is this 1960’s Brutalist beauty designed by NumberTEN Architectural Group, the firm I work for in Winnipeg.
Vancouver’s West End is one of my favourite neighbourhoods in Canada. Proving that beautiful residential streets can be high density. From towers to houses, it’s a model of diversity for all cities. I love all the 50’s and 60’s Modernist apartment buildings especially along Beach Avenue.
I remember watching when Canada’s games were only shown on tape delay in the middle of the night. I was at Iceteca in Edmonton, Toronto when they qualified in 2022, Vancouver last week. It’s been a long journey but tonight I am so proud of how far we have come. 🇨🇦
It’s sad to see the beautiful globe street lights in Vancouver’s Gastown, knowing that similar ones have recently been replaced with more generic fixtures in Winnipeg’s Exchange District.

Vancouver’s Woodward's is one of my favourite towers in Canada. I love its texture and warmth. Fits nicely into its historic context.

It will be a tragic own goal if Vancouver gives Granville Street back to cars after the World Cup. It has created a valuable new centre of gravity in the downtown. The city is much better for it. @brenttoderian.bsky.social
The small Hudson’s Bay store on Main Street in Banff was a nice example of what’s possible for the HBC brand with Canadian Tire. A smaller number of Boutiques with high quality merchandise, in select locations across the country.
