Wha will be a traitor knave? Wha can fill a coward's grave! Wha sae base as be a slave? Let him turn and flee! Robert Burns
I wish I had some real lilac trees the way I did when I was a kid. I do have this Persian Lilac:
There are some people ahead of him on my list for 2028. But I will say that I wouldn’t need to put Oldenburg’s Clothespin on my nose if I have to vote for him in the general, unlike some others.
I could trade kofta and spanakopita for dinner for apple pie cinnamon rolls for breakfast?
One of my favorite murals in my neighborhood is barely visible now because of tree growth, but these photos are from 2013:
Not very prominent at all. It’s just a little plaque on a building on the Left Bank right by the Museé d’Orsay. I don’t even remember how I found it.
When I went to Paris about 18 months ago, I made a point to visit the place where he used to live:
I call the middle one my “clothespin tier”: the ones where I’ll vote for them in the general if they win the primary, but I’ll have to wear this clothespin on my nose to do it:
Found this utter gem in a $2 bargain bin (Molly’s Books and Records in the Italian Market):
There are about a hundred Dems I’d vote for in the primaries ahead of this schmuck. If he actually got the nomination, I’ll put the giant clothespin across from Philadelphia City Hall on my nose and vote for him in the general, but I would rather literally shit a brick than do that.
The phrase has been used for a while, specifically by Mexicans, I think, not all Latino groups. I don’t have any Mexican heritage, but my mother’s family is Sephardic (Spanish) Jewish, so I’m going to borrow it once.
I would also like to remind people that this album cover exists. As Styx is a Chicago band, I hope they wouldn’t object to using part of it in a good cause:
Them’s Manhattan prices. Out here in sanity-land, aka our local Asian fusion place… (entrees included for context)
Sounds similar to a cake I made for my own birthday a few years back. I did a Black Forest Cake recipe, but since neither my wife nor I like those syrupy cherries, I used fresh strawberries in between the layers and on top. Of course, I’m lousy at frosting, so it was a mess, but it tasted good!
