Years ago I lived in Queens and I rode my bike into Brooklyn for work, passing by several cemeteries. Nothing felt more magical than when I would ride through two on either side of me. The temperature would drop significantly, and some evenings fireflies would float amongst the gravestones.

You’ve tried lobster tail, sure, but have you ever tried lobster ear?

A scene from Festa di Giglio off Havemeyer in Williamsburg, where a lobster shack spells it “lobester” about six times all the way around the stand. There are lots of people in the street, and carnival rides in the background. The man in the shack is loudly yelling “get ya lobastah heeyah” as people pass by.

Abandoned Casino, Newport , RI, on film.

A line of white trucks with cherry pickers, each in differing stages of their reach. They’re backed by a wall of green trees roughly the same height of the construction vehicles. A yellow tractor sits in the foreground to the left, a lieutenant of sorts. The parking lot is lined perpendicularly to the vehicles, suggesting a movement in the stillness. The light is soft as the sun sets, and a gentle vignette darkens the edges of the photograph.

Gentle yellow flowers and tall, feathery green weeds grow up out of a curb where white cement has been poured, as if it could hinder their growth or ever tamp down what belongs.

The blue and gold and peach tones of the sun set that lit the abandoned casino parking lot, and the silhouette of trees and power lines that stand still before it.

Things can be soft.

Buttermilk Falls, near Ithaca, NY. The deep lush greenery frames the aptly named foamy falls that curve between them. All shots from my Minolta SRT-102 on Ektar 100.

More rippling falls over the rock, the spindly hand of a branch reached across the frame.

A downed tree with shortened branches like spikes spiraling around it as it cuts horizontally through standing trees and over a steep drop in earth. Everything is gentle and wet and slow.

I got to be in the empty Guggenheim theater today, and it ruled. I’ve never been lucky enough to see anything here, but it felt good to stand on the stage for a few moments.

The empty theater in the Guggenheim, taken from close to the back. There’s a covered grand piano and a lap on stage. A sleek, metal art piece stands to the left, in an almost shark fin shape. There are few straight lines to be seen, and it’s a wash of beige and tan.
