I love love love my marigolds. So easy, so cheerful, never need to buy seeds once you've got 'em... The best.

Cheerful orange/red marigolds, grown from seed collected at the end of last season. I love the little picotee edge. Actually I have no idea what picotee means but it sounds good right now.

Yesterday I had an unexpected avian visitor, a Peregrine Falcon! He obliged me by sitting in a tree for over 5 mins before flying away. Later when I went to water the garden, in the same area I found this very fluffy little feather. Wonder if it came from the Peregrine or one of his victims... 🤔

My tale: the old Vermonters had a saying, "Had the radish". Roughly it means something is kaput, finished, probably catastrophically. For instance if your toaster died, spewing smoke, you could say it had the radish. If your friend almost wipes out skiing, you might say, wow I really thought she had the radish that time! Etc. Once upon a time my pal @organicgay and I tried to revive this saying, but it just hasn't gained the traction I hoped for.

This is a sport of a yellow Piecrust Hosta. One year I noticed a yellow piecrust had sent out a sport. At that time, the sport had leaves with a yellow border and half-and-half yellow and dark green middle. The colors split right down the middle like a black-and-white cookie. I know that such half-and-half leaves are unusual and sought after, so I gently teased the little sport out. I thought my hosta fame was made, my name would be attached to this unusual sport for years to come... which I laugh at now. Because the next year and every year after, it's looked liked this. Which is hardly unusual. I know it's not particularly different from other variegated piecrust hostas, but it's still MINE. All mine.

And yes that's mint photobombing in the front.

Weird tiny growing thing I found while weeding. It's maybe an inch overall. The base looks like a cluster of tiny pine cones with a few pine needles coming out the top. Never seen one before.
